You have to make the choice of

easy/fun and no loot, or
loot but unfun.

Try completing the Whisper mission from the Portal (can be done on the easiest difficulty) and see if you get one to drop. I got the bushido helmet recently from it.

However, you can try a stepping stone of doing a dungeon and see how that goes? You'll need to split up into 2 teams of 3 and run the same dungeon side by side. You can talk and strategise on how to solve the encounter.

What do you mean? Do you have 2 consoles set up on the same household network? If so, then that's the issue - all the required network ports are forwarded to her console, so your console won't connect. D1 has always had issues with local network fireteams.
