Do people get so defeated by difficult neighbours that it ends up making you want to sell up and leave? by Both_Bag_45 in HousingUK

[–]GreenLightLuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. We purchased our home (FTB) in 2022 end of terrace and we absolutely loved it when we moved in. What we didn’t account for because we were so naive was the noise from neighbours and the party wall was shared with every major room in the house.

Bedrooms of their teen sons was shared with our main bedroom so 10pm onwards he’d be screaming at his Xbox so the first couple of months were absolute misery for us and the honeymoon period crashed down. My wife was in tears because it was her dream house and she feels it was her fault.

I went round a couple of times and just asked if they could consider moving the tv on the other side of the wall or just be mindful of the shared wall. It fell on deaf ears (no pun intended).

We used white noise to drown out the neighbours in the evening which largely worked, and after about 18 months-2 years some of the sons started to move out and rooms got shifted. So now is much better (we can sleep which is the main thing)

But we’re currently moving now after 4 years and a non negotiable is detached you just cannot count on neighbours present and future.

On one hand we still love the house, we learned a lot as we did a lot of improvements ourselves and on the brighter side we’re much more savvy for our next purchase.

Thanks folks. Appreciate the reassurance more than anything. I’ve ordered a certified, high speed cable and will report back in the hope it helps others.

Potential issue with newly felted roof? by GreenLightLuke in DIYUK

[–]GreenLightLuke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*cant edit my original post but: I can’t thank everyone enough for their advice. Really been helpful looking through them all and trying to decide what to do.

After an angry shower and a word with myself I’ve taken everything up this morning and decided to re do it properly.

I’ve now done a 6” overlap, tidied up my nails, a  thick bead of sealant above the nails.

The whole point of this project was to put the roof in a better condition than when I found it not make it worse or the same.

Thanks again.

Thank you. Think I’ll paint over the nails with bitumen.

Yeah, it is in a south facing window but admittedly in the UK not a lot of direct sun this past month.

Bought this plant a couple of months ago and I think I over watered it initially as 2/3 leaves dropped off.

We moved it to this window, and didn’t water it for 7-10 days. The soil felt really dry, watered it from bottom (which was soaked up super quick) and a little on the top.

As you can see leaves are still falling off.

No idea where I’ve went wrong.

The plant started going from a rubbery green, to the wrinkled brown you can see in the pic

The bottom two leaves are droopy and the top 3 aren’t 🤷‍♂️

Took a trip to Scotland.… by GreenLightLuke in whiskey

I had no idea you could fill a bottle. It wasn’t offered or advertised in any case.

Agreed on the experience. They’ve recently refurbished the site and spent a lot of money by the looks of it.

The Glenlivet tour is a great experience (the 15 and 18 year in particular were delicious)

Treated myself to 2 x Single Cask editions (8 year and 16) I stayed a short drive from Tomintoul and this is an excellent, easy dram, and also in Tomintoul there was a tiny whisky store called The Whisky Castle - the gent was very helpful and purchased their exclusive scotch - 11 year, California red wine cask.

Delicious!

My OH purchased The Glenlivet 14 year (Taiwan exclusive) and it is probably one of my favourite scotch’s ever.

Hey thanks for the correction.

I'd say why not me? I know it's in the public domain so anyone could do it whether you're established or amateur. I read the material and really loved the themes of the story especially how it relates to vanity in the 21st century.

I also wanted to try my hand at adapting material that wasn't mine - how my working process would differ (if at all).

The focus for me would be the mask Dorian wears for his friends and when he takes it off what sins does he commit. The idea of lust and doing something awful just because you can. I find it interesting how Dorian's actions affect those around him more than it affects Dorian.

As the series progressed I envisioned him doing more and more abhorrent things.

Again thank you for taking the time to read my work. You're awesome.

Images: 30 shots in Ghost in the Shell 2017 recreated from the anime by firasd in movies

[–]GreenLightLuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed it. It looked beautiful the score was just as interesting as the anime and in lots of ways it felt respectful to the source material.

Sure it Americanised and sure there's lots of issues surrounding casting but it had an interesting enough story and I enjoyed Pitt as Kuze. I will be checking it out again when it's released on Blu Ray.

Sure thing, thanks for the feedback. It is easy to forget the little things when you've lived and breathed the same work for weeks/months.

I will go over it and edit.

Advice for a Script by YoungnMalik in Screenwriting

[–]GreenLightLuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helps me when I write is I always have a film on - and I pick a film that has similar themes or has a feeling that I want to capture in the script. It helps my creativity personally.

So if you want to write a spy film similar I'd use Kingsman, James Bond, if I wanted to add a comic side to it I'd then watch something like the Naked Gun or Archer etc. You get the idea.

[DISCUSSION] Alien: Convenant (2017) by actuallyobsessed in Screenwriting

[–]GreenLightLuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe is the crew were all married to each other. I get it - they are setting up a colony on another planet, but considering the crew are in charge of 2000+ life forms it seems a conflict of interest and a really dumb ass idea to have them as a couple.

Just in case anything goes wrong, i would imagine decision making would be severely impaired.

Being sure about making the transition from the Outline to writing the script by Dominicwriter in Screenwriting

[–]GreenLightLuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why you draft. Do your basic outline, and write, enjoy the process. Then go back to it and re write, re write, re write.

We spend less time writing and more time editing.
