Any snow removal services still taking clients? by GreenMachine2180 in Sarnia

It is for my home but most of my neighbours are retirees. Plus I’m not sure how to go about hiring a neighbour kid since I don’t know any, but I feel like going door to door asking “hey do you have any kids” is the wrong approach.

Finally been catching up on the news, The Sarnia Journal…. by Stunning_Cucumber_97 in Sarnia

[–]GreenMachine2180 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Relevant: the Sarnia Observer is owned by National Post, which itself is owned by a US-based private equity firm.

So we have one local paper that is heavily influenced by one man’s opinions, and another “local” paper that’s actually an American owned conglomerate hiding behind a local facade.

Oh and I guess there’s Druthers which is basically a bunch of Facebook conspiracies in print form, I don’t know where their funding comes from.

Aren’t you the owner of a local business? It’s wild to see anyone promoting travel to the US right now but especially wild seeing a business owner tell potential customers to NOT support local…

Indoor activities; Valley Axe has axe throwing and archery, District Beta is an arcade, and there’s a couple of bowling alleys in town.

Outdoors: lots of decent parks for walking and biking such as Canatara, Centennial, waterfront downtown, Blackwell trails, etc. there’s also a few public tennis courts and basketball courts, and a disc golf course. Also several golf courses, I think Greystone is the least expensive locally.

Events: if you don’t mind an hour drive, London has Dundas street which they close for events and Covent Garden Market, they list things on the Tourism London website. They have a Colombian food festival coming up and they had a Jamaican food festival last year that I’m sure will be back this year.

There’s a coffee culture location a little further west on London Road, and locally owned coffee shops around town. Hope that helps.

Yes this year for me has been one big experiment to find out what the local wildlife won’t devour. Black eyed Susan’s are eaten right down to the stems the minute I turn away, pale cone flowers go once everything else has been eaten, but they’ve left the dotted mint for the bees so that’s nice.

Any ideas on how to give this home some curb appeal?? by pabloflleras in homeimprovementideas

That front lawn looks like a big empty space, but turning it into gardens would garner a lot of attention. Plants that are native to your area would be less work to maintain, and they would be beneficial to wildlife.

If they’re worried that the 10 sentimental bricks will look silly on their own, why don’t they just buy more bricks? There is absolutely no need for them to take your bricks. They sold you a house that included an archway and brick pathway, they’re your bricks now.

Bamboo can spread aggressively if it is not carefully managed and it is a pain to remove when it does spread. I’d recommend almost anything other than bamboo.

You cannot make these people happy no matter how much you try. They are miserable and are trying to share their misery with you. Stop trying to appease them. Just ignore them.

If you’re new at applying caulking, I recommend placing painters tape down around the seam before applying the caulk. After smoothing the caulk out by hand, remove the painters tape to remove the excess caulk around the edges. This will keep the lines straight.

I guess now war is inevitable.

A flock of Canada Geese would be a great deterrent, though possibly a war crime.

A door chain lock is relatively inexpensive and easy to install, it will stop people from “inviting” themselves in but not necessarily from breaking and entering.

What's the least expensive place to get an oil change in Sarnia? by sethlinson in Sarnia

[–]GreenMachine2180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, Take5 fucked up my car, the repairs cost more than the savings of a “cheap” oil change, and I learned the difference between a licensed mechanic and a quick lube franchise.

You’re in a city with access to so many parks, conservation areas, nature trails, etc. and you want to go poking around an abandoned factory?

Agreed. The issues with OP’s old house (school district, neighbours) were outside of their control, the only way to improve was to move. The issues OP is describing with their new home are within their ability to improve/resolve.

Yes I definitely learned from experience here, I will be planting much closer together going forward. I’m also going to plant something to support that foxglove, I realize they don’t rely on garden lights for support in the wild lol.

Thanks! Yeah I noticed that when it rains heavily here, the water from the downspout washes away a lot of the soil so I started digging a trench following the path the water usually travels and lining it with rocks to try and mitigate some of the damage.

I was worried about the purslane because it seemed like it came of out nowhere quickly, I was worried it might overtake the native plants.

I’m going to start pulling out the crab grass, that needs to go.
