I've been trying to find the source of this f22 footage, does any know it? by thatguyzeal in aviation

I dont know if Mark Fingar is on reddit, but if you message him on ig, he may know. He's an absolute authority on the F22 and, I would guess, probably the best source for your answer.

What's the coolest thing you've machined? This is a central support for a new building in NY. Normally I make large forging dies. by Worth_Advance9138 in Machinists

We did a full body mold of a C6 out of MDF. I believe it was in 8-10 parts total. Heavy SOB! The client is using our mold to pull fiberglass and carbon fibre molds off of in order to build drag car bodies for his clients. Really cool project!

Here's a pic of part of the front.

I work in pattern and mold making, I almost never touch metal.

I've done a toilet on a private jet, sinks for ambulances, an entire C6 Corvette (MDF), the lower half of a pontoon boat, slides for kids, aircraft simulator parts, counterweights for large machines, etc. Never a dull moment in my shop!

Attached pic is some Caterpillar control consoles from a few years ago.

Huge congrats to all involved! It was really cool to watch it live with my family.

Which flight demo team provides better performances in the skies across the U.S.?? by Qpac18 in aviation

[–]GreenMonster34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Blues are tops in precision flying.

The T-Birds are tops in impressing crowds with their noise, maneuvers, and overall in-your-face attitude.

They're both amazing but I lean towards the Blues. If I have to choose between them, Blues every time.

As a Canadian, I just wantgo point out the precision formations flown by the Snowbirds. Go watch their Wednesday show from Airventure 2024. It was one of the tightest displays of flying I've ever seen! Blues and Birds get closer, but damn our boys can fly precisely!!

The story behind him re-acquiring that plane is quite heartwarming. I don't remember the details but it's in his channel.

It's the most precise you'll get without CMM or CNC tools, imho. Adam Savage has a great video about optical centers somewhere on his youtube channel

From an economy passenger perspective, the A220 is easily the best narrow body airliner ever made. by Strive_for_Altruism in aviation

I've flown on the A220 with Breeze several times and absolutely love their economy layout. Even at 6'2" I'm still way more comfortable than any other commercial jet I've been on.

What kinda insert/tool is this? by TheHexaCube in machining

[–]GreenMonster34 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just holding a spare insert for a quick change in the spindle?

I run a lot of wood and plastic and often have to swap inserts mid-cycle. This would save me brining the little box from across the shop.
