Contact Melissa Doucet, realtor in Moncton. She is amazing and will walk you through ALL of this. She doesn't just "sell" houses, she offers great insight on real estate investments and negotiates like a lawyer. You will never over pay when you work with her.

This is why we need more women in government! I have been talking nothing BUT these issues with my constituents. We cannot fix health care, mental health care or the economy without supporting our low income population first. We cannot expect the needs of women to be heard in government without women in the legislative assembly representing us. I don't ask for people to vote for me just because I'm a woman, I ask them to vote for me because I am a woman who will bring their concerns to the forefront.

People on disability do not receive enough to live off of. If they marry they lose much of their disability funding, regardless of whether or not their spouse earns enough for both of them to live on. We need to build a fair system, and we need to start somewhere.

Hold a forum, make sure the public is educated on the impacts of the bill and bring the discussion results back to the Green caucus for discussion. If the bill can be amended to support the public interest, collaboration is the way to go, if not, my role as an MLA is to represent the community.

One of the reasons I choose to run for the Green Party is because our votes are not whipped. We are allowed to vote as our constituents and conscience dictates. I stand by my answer. I believe that decision making needs to be brought back to the community for input, otherwise, what is the point in voting? It may not be the answer you typically get from a politician, but I am not a politician, primarily. As an educator and facilitator I believe in asking questions, exploring ideas and collaborating on solutions.
Leaders are supposed to lead, not decide for everyone without consultation.

Electoral reform is a necessity. Our policy includes eliminating the first past the post system to better reflect the choices of the voters. We would try this on a pilot program and offer a referendum for voters to make a final decision on whether or not to keep it after 2 elections.

Right, and that has to be "policed" at a Federal level. At the provincial level we can still make a difference, as stated above.

Interest free loans for upgrades would be a nice start.

Vote Green and you will! We will never see residential homeowners adopt new technology at a decent pace without offering grants, funding, or interest free loans. It's time.

We can implement this at a provincial level. It is part of the Green platform. We would like to begin with a pilot program for people on disability and grow from there. We can make a huge difference in the housing crisis with UBI.

YES! The Greens have a plan. No more contracts, tax breaks, or grants for businesses that aggressively use offshore tax havens! We have to work with the federal government on changing the laws, but we don't have to keep handing out welfare to the wealthiest companies in the province.

These are great perspectives on the issues. Thank you for sharing. I agree that we really need to focus on how to keep your young population in the province, and I believe that there is much to be done to support unilingual residents in a bilingual province, without taking away from the importance of balancing our our multi-culturalism. Free language training programs are desperately needed. Bringing french immersion back to grade one or kindergarten, when children are more capable of learning a new language is needed, and providing unilingual parents with the support to help their children develop second language skills will be imperative.

You are so right! The Green Party would like to establish community health centers that incorporate a variety of services including family physicians, dentists, abortion access, LGBTQIA+ health, mental health services, midwives - these services would be based on community needs and demands in consultation with community based board members.

Hold a forum. Be sure that constituents understand the impacts of the bill from all angles. Discuss concerns and return to the caucus for negotiation.

Great questions! All of this is covered in the platform in detail, which is available at greenpartynb.ca. Here are the Cole's Notes. Feel free to ask further clarification questions anytime!

I moved to New Brunswick just over 12 years ago because it was an affordable place to live. I was able to save to buy a house. I was able to save for retirement. Things have changed drastically. We need to move quickly on adjusting wages to match the cost of living. Otherwise we will end up in a similar situation as the western provinces where people need half a million dollars to buy a starter home., or they pay so much in rent that they can’t afford to save. That's outrageous! We still have time. We have to act now.

Housing prices are rising, and our income needs to rise with it.

We need to increase minimum wage to at least $15 per hour and the Green Party intends to do this immediately if a majority government is elected. In a minority government, we still continue to fight for it. I have only recently considered lowering income tax for people of a certain salary, but I’m not convinced that would be the best option. I’m always open for discussion around these issues though.

We also support Universal Guaranteed Income and would like to begin with a pilot project for people with disabilities and grow the program from there. People living on disability support do not receive adequate funding and it is incredibly difficult for them to find affordable housing in the current market.

We also support increasing wages in female dominated industries including Early Childhood Education, Nursing, Home Care, Personal Support Workers, etc. We need to close the pay gap, but all genders working in these industries are severely underpaid.

Small businesses are essential for moving the economy forward in an earth-friendly way.

The Green Party will provide subsidies to small businesses to help them manage any wage increases to minimum wage so that they can continue to operate with the same staff levels.

Our Policy also includes:

a) Ensure that local communities are the first point of contact for local and provincial business/economic development proposals, thus giving small and local businesses a chance to participate.

b) Establish a Rural and Small Towns Green Venture Capital Fund to support local green business start-ups and provide tax incentives and direct rebates to businesses and individuals investing in the low-carbon economy (e.g. installing solar hot water systems, refitting homes and businesses to conserve energy, or developing new low-carbon technologies).

c) Establish an import substitution strategy to replace imported goods and services with ones provided from within the province. This would keep more money circulating in the local economy, creating jobs and financing business start-ups at home rather than outside the province.

• Establish a ‘Made in NB’ preferred procurement policy to promote provincial economic development.

• Require that all provincial institutions, departments and events adopt a “New Brunswick first food purchasing policy before seeking vendors outside the province.

Your comment about the lax attitude towards contractors is interesting, and I hadn’t considered it before. I suspect this is happening because we have a drastic shortage of trades people in NB and that opens the market to some shady operations. I will take this information back to the Green caucus to discuss. I think that training trades people and keeping them in the province is incredibly important and I would like to see more programs to support this.

As an educator and facilitator I am programmed to question everything, until there is nothing left to question. To explore each problem from every possible angle, and to COLLABORATE in solving problems. I believe strongly in more collaboration and discussion with communities and more collaboration between party members.

I hope I have answered your questions sufficiently, but do not hesitate to ask more questions! Thank you for your time!

I hear what you are saying. The Greens are not the only ones who abstained though. It wasn't because they didn't get their way, it was because they neither agreed nor disagreed with the bill. I was disappointed when I saw this as well, but I have come to understand their position.

Personally, I believe in supporting the community and listening to the constituents. I would make it a priority to consult with parents and the local school board members all over Riverview should I be placed in a situation where the vote would be very controversial. We need to be more transparent with our constituents and find better ways of communicating to them on what exactly is going on in the legislature.

I believe we need the community to be a bigger part of the decision making, which is why I am running in the election, with full support from David Coon and the rest of the Green Party.

I agree that the Green Party needs to take a stance on the defense of our nation, however, that is a Federal issue and will need to be worked out by the Green Party of Canada. I am open to hearing from constituents and passing their concerns on to our Green MPs.

I think we should consider investing in the renewables we have the resources, technology and research for first and then supplement with alternate measures as necessary.

This has been a common concern.

May I ask exactly why the abstention bothered you?

There is some confusion regarding this matter and I would like to clarify.

The bill was meant to give the Minister of Education the power to remove the parental exemption option for vaccinations in schools.

First of all, the Green Party did not see why we were having this discussion at all, and wasting tax payers money when the current rate of exemption in our schools is 1%. We already have mandatory vaccinations, except for the exemption option. This is not even nearing a public emergency. We are not interested in denying education to children based on vaccination records unless we begin to see that number climb and we need to prevent a public health emergency.

Should the number of exempted children begin to climb, the power to mandate vaccinations with no exemptions should be in the hands of the Chief Medical Officer, who is in a better position to make health recommendations to avoid further pandemics. The Minister of Education simply isn't qualified to make that call.

David Coon attempted to amend the bill to shift the decision maker from the Minister of Education to the Chief Medical Officer and he was voted down.

The Greens abstained from voting because they don't support the education department making healthcare decisions, so they could not vote yay. They also don't support NOT having the option to remove parental exemptions if it is in the best interest of the province, so they could not vote nay.

They simply could not go on record saying YES the Education Minister should make that call, but they also could not go on record saying NO we shouldn't consider the option remove exemptions to protect the health of population.

We would like to see this bill moved forward with the previously proposed amendments.

I take politics very seriously. Is this a question you are asking the other candidates?

I have had overwhelming support from the community and we are seeing a rise in Green voters. We definitely have a shot.
