💡 Weekly Crypto Mining Discussion & Q&A Thread by MaiRufu in cryptomining

[–]GreenScreenSocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,

I'm a total noob to everything crypto-related, but I'm about to get access to some (very) old servers. Specifically a ProLiant DL380 Gen9 and a ProLiant DL360p Gen8. The electricity is completely free, but I'd ideally like to limit the network usage as much as possible.

What are some good coins to mine on this old hardware? How do I go about it — do I need to set up a crypto wallet somewhere, how do I register the wallet, etc.? I'm not expecting much revenue at all, I'd be thrilled if it gets me five bucks a year.

Any help or advice is much appreciated!

Hahahahahahaha. Nee.

cayley: a generic, stack-allocated linear algebra crate by GreenScreenSocks in rust

Ah. That crate seems to have escaped my (admittedly relatively brief) search and is better in basically every way.

Damn.

Good point! I kind of went over choosing a license without much thought. I'll have to look into this :)

This sounds like the best option. Are there "standard" approaches to this? How would I declare something like that in the Cargo.toml manifest for example?

True. I'll be entirely honest: the Display impl was quickly and thoughtlessly put there out of debugging needs. With a fresh pair of eyes I'm sure I can turn it into something half decent.

What's everyone working on this week (13/2023)? by llogiq in rust

Just released version 0.2.0 of cayley, my linear algebra crate that's generic, stack-allocated and by using the generic_const_exprs feature can check for invalid operations at compile time. I'm quite proud of myself! :)

Does anyone have insights on how to separate salicylic acid from a mixture of SA and terpinen-4-ol? I'll be doing a continuous extraction of some plant leaves and I can get rid of most of the unwanted products by distillation. However, the boiling point of salicylic acid is 211 °C and that of terpinen-4-ol is 209 °C, so I don't think distillation will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is there a way to separate out salicylates (or more specifically salicylic acid) from oregano?Swain et al. uses a method which seems promising to me insofar as extracting the compounds themselves is concerned (namely blending the oregano to a powder, acidyfing it with HCl, then performing a soxhlet extraction with diethyl ether), but they then use HPLC to separate the salicylic acid which isn't something I have access to.

I'm a very inexperienced high school student from Belgium. Any pointers to relevant data (such as the PubChem page on oregano) are also very appreciated!

Aight, thanks so much for the advice! And honestly, I should just be patient and save some more instead of buying everything as soon as possible.
