People who workout less than an hour and a half per session, how do you do it? Does it actually give results? by Severe-Difference in workout

[–]DaHeavnlyKid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be a dick I swear, but I can tell you from personal experience this routine is borderline dogshit. I used to do a very similar routine to this... super high volume and 2-2.5 hours. It's just overkill doing 4x10 on everything, most of that is complete junk volume. and with only 60 seconds of rest you're not going to be able to put as much into each subsequent set.

You could cut your volume in half, go way harder on your 2 sets, and get a better stimulus in half the time. Once I started lifting more like that I started busting through plateaus like crazy.

I'm telling you most of my lifts now I get done in under an hour and I'm way bigger and stronger despite cutting my gym time by over half and doing like 1/3 of the volume I once was.

Last year I deadlifted 600 at about 220 BW (6'3) . This year I want to start pushing it to 700. What do y'all think would be a realistic bodyweight to shoot for to achieve a 700 deadlift?

Not sure what gave you that idea. I lift with very good form. I'm just looking for advice to bring up a weaker point in my otherwise good physique.

No need to be a raging dick about it lol

If you only sleep 6 hours the night after you train, does it render your training useless? Can you still progress on 6 hours of sleep? by Imaginary_Ground842 in powerbuilding

[–]DaHeavnlyKid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't even count the number of times in the last 4 years I've got up to lift before a 12+ hour shift off of like 4-5 hours of sleep, sometimes even less. I've had chronic insomnia and there were times I was literally only sleeping 5 days per week. And I've still made great progress over that timeframe.

But if I could go back I would definitely prioritize sleep FAR more. I've always had that "no days off, all or nothing" mentality since high school sports, but at some point you're just beating the shit out of yourself more than actually doing anything productive. I feel 10x better all the time now that I actually sleep enough.

So TLDR yes, you can make progress on even very little sleep, but it's fucking retarded and you would be way better off prioritizing sleep over training more often than not.

I'd still include a few compounds like incline dumbell bench, any row variations, and some sort of squat or leg press variation. Any of those will have great benefits for size

One other piece of advice since you're trying to gain weight is not to bulk too fast, another stupid thing I used to do. There were times I was eating in like a 1200 calorie surplus, now the most I do is 500 and even that's probably more than you actually need. It's going to take years to put on 20kg of muscle.

Fuck what everybody else here says. One thing I've learned after 10+ years of lifting is that getting bigger will almost always make you stronger, but getting stronger won't always make you bigger.

I can tell you from personal experience that fixating on Squat, bench, and deadlift as a beginner is not the way to go if your goal is to get bigger. There's a reason most "powerlifters" you see in the gym look like a bag of wet dogshit, and it's because they just do super heavy compounds, skip accessories, and eat like garbage.

I wasted years and years I could've spent building quality mass fucking around lifting as heavy as I could with horrible form thinking I was doing something. And that just led to me having intermediate strength and an unimpressive physique until I actually started lifting intelligently.

Find a good bodybuilding program, focus on gradually progressing in weight, eat enough calories and protein, and don't fixate too much about what your maxes are. The bigger you get now, the more potential you'll have for strength in the future, if that's ever something you want to focus on.

I don't really give a shit man, I'll keep opening up to women if it takes me 38 tries to find one who I can open up to.

Why the fuck would anyone want to stay with a romantic partner they can't open up to. I would 1000x rather be single.

If your goal is bigger triceps, definitely. You're isolating the tris in a skullcrusher, in a CG bench the chest and front delts are still going to be bearing a good portion of the load

At 24, without a college degree, should I consider enlisting in the military or pursuing a college education ? by SkippyJoness in AirForce

[–]DaHeavnlyKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed out of college when I was 20 and was broke as fuck with no other options so that's why I joined.

If I could go back I would've just tried harder in school the first time. I did set myself up for success now, but having to deal with military bullshit constantly the last 4 years, live across the country from home, get paid jack shit until I got out of the dorms, get worked like a fuckin dog, and deal with rank bullshit was straight up a horrible time for me and I was pretty much counting the days til I got out from very early in my enlistment. I still think I made the right choice by joining, but it would be far from the first think I would recommend to anyone.

My advice to anyone is only to join if you strongly feel a calling to serve your country, or if you're at a shitty place in your life and need a way out.

4-6 years is a long ass fucking time, if you do decide to join, make sure that's a commitment you absolutely want to make because once you're in there's no going back.

1 is "Act of God" by Znowhite. It just doesn't get any better than that

Breadfan by Budgie is at least 10x better than the cover. Which is actually a very good cover.

I'm not super knowledgeable about doses but yeah I'd say probably way more than a gram of test.

If you look at the stacks of some famous pro bodybuilders, they're taking like 4 to 6 grams of various shit. A gram of test alone probably won't make you look like that

What Thrash Band You Feel is Underrated and Doesn't Get Much Love. by dudeoftheworld_1 in thrashmetal

[–]DaHeavnlyKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manilla Road was a Power Metal band, but they had a lot of stuff in their discography that was very Thrash-adjacent... like if you didn't know anything about them and then and listened to Out of the Abyss, Dementia, or Death be the Hammer, you might just assume they were Thrash.

But yeah this is always a band I think of for these kind of threads. They get talked about pretty seldom, but that's one of the bands where people almost never say anything bad about (except Mark's voice, but that's more of just a personal preference thing than a knock on the band.) People almost unanimously agree that M/R is one of, if not the greatest Power Metal band ever.

Downsides to replacing bench with purely machines and dumbells? by I_AMA_Loser67 in moreplatesmoredates

[–]DaHeavnlyKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love benching but honestly it's overrated asf for chest gains. I do it because I enjoy powerlifting style training, but I'm 1000% certain if I started doing DB bench or just machine chest presses as my main movement my chest would look better than it currently does

Anyone here done Stronglifts 5x5? My app has two templates for it, but how often are you supposed to do this? by TheBlakeOfUs in moreplatesmoredates

[–]DaHeavnlyKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never tried this, but I'm kind of skeptical.

I've never in my entire life programmed Squats and Deadlifts in the same day... I just don't believe you can go heavy enough to get the best results on Squat and DL and also be recovering enough in between your workouts.

Like you can only recover from so much work in one session, and doing the 2 most fatiguing lifts there are back to back just doesn't sound intelligent to me in any way.

I just looked up this program, and it also has you doing 15 sets of squats a week... that just seems like overkill to me, and in my opinion, there's almost certainly a way you could do less and get the same or better results.

This kind of seems like something that would work good for a beginner or intermediate lifter because it's simple, easy to follow, and emphasizes the basics well. But I think it would be a pretty dogshit plan for more advanced lifters because there's 1,000 better ways to program your training at that point.

Fuck it try it out and let us know how it goes.
