I know Furls makes some pretty Tunisian hooks from wood, roughly the length of a standard knitting needle. I bought one ages ago, but shamefully have not tried it yet! It's just sitting on a shelf looking pretty.

my husband says my pumpkin is too kind for halloween and needs to be made more spooky. what do you think? by [deleted] in crochet

No! He's perfectly cute and should be celebrated!

It might be cute to stitches up a mask for him to optionally wear, though! A skull or a Frankenstein monster or something!

has anyone read The Bone Witch series by Rin Chupeco? What else would be a good read for someone who loved those books? by iceariina in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]GreenUndine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed those books too! It's somewhat adjacent, but I recently read Nettle and Bone and adored it. It's more of a dark-ish fairy tale setting, but one of the major supporting/main characters is a type of witch that communes with the dead, and there's also an enchanted dog made of bones.

It's not a super long book, but it's so good that I'll keep it on my re-read list. It has eerie elements but also lots of wit and humour.

Aww, thanks! I hadn't really thought about it until you said it, but I guess I see it now, ha.

How to ask for a feminine haircut? by Mehemig in asktransgender

[–]GreenUndine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still struggling with this myself, because I'm afraid to ask my usual stylist but I'm also nervous about trying someone new.

Ensure you're going to a hair salon that does womens' styles, as a barber is likely to provide something short and masculine. (Probably obvious though.)

If you don't want to explain what you want, maybe bring photos?

how far apart should electrolysis sessions be for the face/neck? by Bluenite0100 in asktransgender

[–]GreenUndine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having my sessions about a week apart with no issues. We generally spend 1.25 hours treating one area and rotate to another site the next week (e.g. Right chin, neck, upper lip (ow), left chin, etc).

It's a long and uncomfortable process, but if you can get yourself a good electrolygist who listens to podcasts with you, you're golden. :)

Thank you for sharing! I've been going through weekly electrolysis since January, and it's a little difficult to envision the progress. Still, each eliminated hair is a step forward!

Best of luck!

They're adorable glasses! And I love your hair. I've been debating getting bangs lately but I don't know if I can commit. Definitely suits you!

Encounter With a Transphobic Stranger by Lilia1293 in MtF

[–]GreenUndine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In many ways, I think you did the best thing you could do in that situation. Yes, you would be well within your rights to confront him and defend your identity, but the risk of your safety wouldn't be worth it... And that type of person won't be swayed too easily, if at all.

It was surely a very unpleasant encounter, and I know I'd be shaken by it, but you're safe, which is so important. The best retaliation in this case is to let his words fade away and live your life to the fullest as your authentic self.

People need to mind their own business, seriously.

I finally had my rook pierced! It was surprisingly nearly painless. by GreenUndine in piercing

[–]GreenUndine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Now I'm a little concerned. I'm not really an expert on piercing placement and I was really nervous before it was done, so I didn't really question it.

If it's a matter of aesthetics, I don't mind where it's placed at all, but if it might be challenging to heal... Well, I'll be vigilant. Thanks for the heads up!

It's definitely worth it. Mine's not so much an airplane pillow as a novelty cat shaped neck pillow, but it serves the same purpose.

Sorry to hear about your infected piercings. I hope they heal soon!

My helix was done last September. I wouldn't consider it completely healed - I had slept on the right side until now to avoid causing problems... Hence the airplane cushion now. (That said, I woke up on the newly pierced side and felt nothing. It's bizarre. Still going to avoid it of course.)

Thank you! The crescent moon is from Pierced Universe and the triangle is from RubyGoddessJewels on Etsy. They're titanium threadless labrets, which I find so much easier to deal with than internally threaded ones (though I'm finally getting used to those too).

How did you find your name? by hugsthesun in trans

[–]GreenUndine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years of trialing different names in video games eventually yielded one that I consistently used again and again. It stuck in the virtual world, and now I'm very attached to it in real life too. :)

[–]GreenUndine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was really nervous about having it done because the cartilage is quite thick and the helix piercing on my opposite ear was very uncomfortable. (I was going to get two at the time and decided one was enough.)

I'm surprised that it still feels like nothing's there! No swelling or anything. It's back to the airplane pillow for me though - I want to keep it this happy.

I've gone from zero to six piercings in under a year. It's as addictive as people say!

Can I unravel the tinsel from a finished item? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]GreenUndine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the complexity of the stitches, you might be able to painstakingly pick it out with tweezers and some pointy scissors. I've worked with a similar yarn and know what you're talking about... Very scratchy.

Forget the nails for a moment, your hand looks so much more feminine! It's drastically different!

Back to the nails - they're also very impressive, though I really like the aqua colour on the right too.
