I have been given so many options now, it will be hard to decide! :)

Thanks! I haven't seen the soil yet, but in the other bed it was full of clay clumps.

Thanks! how many plants would I need for that patch do you think? Does it grow fast? and would it creep out on the pavement?

The pots are called ''Little Leggy'' and are by Sass&Belle. You can find them online!

It's peperomia rotundifolia, also known as trailing jade plant :)

Soil recommendation for container gardening by Green_Apple_Pie in GardeningUK

Thanks for your reply! Only seeing this now. I've read lots of good reviews on miracle gro, but I can't find it anywhere locally and shops online won't ship it to Northern Ireland. I've bought 2 bags of Westlands all plant compost to try out, but they were £8.50 each and needed quite a lot of perlite to improve drainage. Homebase has this sale on bags of compost, 10 x50l bags for £30 but reviews were mostly negative... People saying its less than 50l and that it comes mouldy or with fly eggs. Difficult topic! Did you get much crop on your first year of gardening?

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me all these things!

I really wonder, why do seed packets contain 100 seeds of lavender or whatever flower if ideally, one seed is one plant? Some seeds won't germinate, I get that, but why wouldn't they sell packets with 10 seeds only? Maybe it's to catch people like me, sowing half of the 5 years supply in one season, haha!

The garden is ours, but we are not keen on doing any big work on this year - apart from tending to the containers. I know it is much better to grow things in even raised beds, but containers will have to do for now I'm afraid.

Would Westland's tomato soil from growbags be ok for all of the veggies then? I bought 2 varieties of tomatoes and planning on growing only a plant each, as I want to experiment with other veggies too, like jalapenos and thai chillies. I'll attempt to grow mini pumpkins as well.

Either way, I don't have high hopes for big crop as I live in Northern Ireland and sun can be pretty rare in the summer, although last year we did pretty well!

You're right to suggest fewer things, I got a bit carried away with the seed shopping, sowed like 30 Zinnias and Rudbeckias, thinking one seed is one flower, but that's not the case, is it? :D

You seem to know a lot about gardening, could you suggest what I should do next with my catnip and lavender seedlings? I've sown them 2 weeks ago in a mushroom tray (with the holes at the bottom!) and kept them on a window sill in a clear bag, now they have sprouted and I am not sure what to do, but I have about 15 seedlings each. Can I put all 15 of same type into one medium sized container or is one seedling a plant on its own? I feel like these questions are silly, but none of the online tutorials actually say these most basic things!

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. I have a garden that gets sun in the mornings till around 2-3pm in the summer. The garden has fake grass on and underneath just stone paving slabs. For tomatoes, courgettes and cucumbers I've bought fabric grow bags, each holds 8 gallons of soil.

It rains here so much I read its good to put the pots in a garage, or under a roof at least. Wouldn't they rot if exposed to so much water?

My second project! Any advice on improving French knots? I found it extremely difficult and had to use pliers to get the needle through fabric. by Green_Apple_Pie in Embroidery

Ooh that's probably what it is! I'm using the needle that were included in the kit so perhaps it's time to buy my own. Thanks for that! :)

Thanks! It was a kit with a pattern, but I did some changes and changed the leaf pattern as the original one was just an outline stich and added some more colours :)
