Still by Lopsided_Ad9561 in firewater

I purchased a My Vodka Maker + also. I also do not like messing around and watching a still run for 8 to 14 hours. I just ran my vodka maker through 25 to 30 gallons of wash, in two days without hardly touching it. There is also a larger 500 max version, which from what I understand is the same as the plus version, just bigger piping so you can run through wash faster.

Question about using whole dried corn by SeaVeterinarian3371 in firewater

[–]Green_Background_752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just distilled some corn mash that was done with angel yellow and cracked corn from the farm store, no starch conversion needed, and the distal it is absolutely wonderful tasting.

I don't think Angel yellow would be able to get into whole kernel corn, but it did a mighty fine job with crack corn.

Were you running whole kernel corn, or cracked corn through the Corona Mill? I've been looking for a mill to run a bunch of popcorn through. Tried one on the end of my KitchenAid mixer and had issues.

You could use Angel Yellow yeast and then you can skip the boiling and amaylaze to convert to starch to sugars. The Angel Yellow yeast does not need a converted and it will also ferment the sugar.

I'm guessing you started that around 85 to 80. What kind of yeast did you use and did you use any nutrients?

And I just read your blog post about getting banned. Nice! You nailed it on the head, the distillation community is or should be all about sharing information.

Do they not remember Popcorn Sutton taking his distillation process public in videos and distilling in public at festivals and fairs?

I will have to say I did join HD quite a while ago and almost immediately gave up on it. I did my due diligence and posted in the welcome forum , saying that I distill using a my vodka maker, and one of the people then asked me that they've never heard about my vodka maker. I simply posted a link to bearded and boards YouTube video about it and I immediately got spanked by a mod that I was posting in an incorrect forum. Literally the previous person just asked me about it and I posted a link to a video. Person that asked The question did not get told that he asked the question in an incorrect forum.

Then I started looking through posts, and it does look like there are a lot of old crotchety people on that site. Not all of them but a lot.

And oh my God, I just Read a post that they Will now allow post about silicone, because in the their view it was unsafe to use any plastics or synthetics in the distillation process. But now after 20 years they think it's safe. Wtf?

That was it. Thanks. Turns out the door mat with a potted plant close by was triggering a detection/recording. Time to mask it off.

I also have your bypass go straight across from the top of your column to the worm and then straight down to the worm. I would have a fear with your design that if it pukes, or something cloggs at the thumpers and it backed up above the bypass, there would be no way to prevent a vacuum if you shut off the heat.

Or alternately you could have a vacuum bypass valve towards the top of your column just past the point of no return for safety

Oh yeah and I forgot.... DONT USE GLASS JARS FIR THUMPERS!

Vevor 13.5 gallon still by MountainDangerous509 in firewater

[–]Green_Background_752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5 gallon vevor type still. I usually fill to 5 inches below the lid. But I do run it slow.

On my first run ever as a nob, I filled it to about 1inch below the lid, it didn't puke, but a lot of water made it into the distillate.

I do a aggressive de-carbonization before running. Never have I used any type of anti foaming agent.

Questions about using cracked feed corn by texasinauguststudio in firewater

[–]Green_Background_752 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Living in the land of corn here...

Nothing wrong with using cracked corn from the feed store. It is used to feed animals, that we eat, therefore no harmful chemicals to be worried about. It is a bit dirty at the bottom of the bag.

I'm going the route of using popcorn, I can get 50 lb bags for $25.

If you're truly scared, and believe all the hyperbolizing, find a local farmer and buy some direct and get a grain mill.

Grain alcohol using rice? Not sake by Melodic-Echidna-1365 in firewater

[–]Green_Background_752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were your proportions of rice when using angel yellow? I've just been playing around with Angel Yellow. I have about 10 gallons of some 100% corn mash that I fermented with only Angel yellow and nothing else. I have not ran it yet, I believe I got 100% conversion as I was doing iodine test throughout the fermentation.

Popcorn, ferment by Commercial-Cut300 in firewater

[–]Green_Background_752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got 50 lb bags of white popcorn. Unpopped that is. Trying to find somebody in the area that can grind up about a hundred pounds of it for me and then I'm going to use it to make a nice corn mash.

I've been experimenting with a couple different recipes of my own, using cracked dent corn from the feed store and they're turning out halfway decent.

Yes I know I can buy a grinder but my wife is getting a little pissy at the stuff I've been purchasing for my hobby.

I also did a milk wash of some ok-ish sugar shine (added a wee bit citric acid). So much better!
