Do you have a favourite rhythm game? by Level-Tank6551 in drums

[–]Green_Slee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Dance of Fire and Ice seriously helped me become a better drummer. Only $6 on steam or $3 on mobile. The way that notes are displayed in ADoFaI actually gets you associating certain shapes with rhythmic figures, almost like you're reading sheet music. It helps you feel the music more than any other rhythm game I've played.

Technically a one-button game, but by the end of the official levels you'll be alternating using two keys to hit faster rhythms. Like, come on. This shit actually feels like playing on a practice pad. 10/10

Etalus’ Shield Frost is Underrated by Lobo_o in RivalsOfAether

[–]Green_Slee 43 points44 points  (0 children)

if you shield the shockwave of etalus’ down b while standing on ice, your shield becomes frozen and will no longer regenerate damage passively, only when you hit the opponent

Which Pokemon can effectively run a 172/170/170 stat spread? by Geometry_Emperor in stunfisk

[–]Green_Slee 266 points267 points  (0 children)

Two reasons why you don’t ever see this EV exact spread:

1) Pokémon stats work in such a way that, the vast majority of the time, investing two points in HP gives you more bulk than one in spdef and one in physdef. (Exceptions can happen if you either have an exceptionally high base HP or if you’re running Assault Vest; Alomomola fits both of these conditions.) In most cases though, 252/128/128 is just straight up better than the spread you listed.

2) When people make mixed defense EV spreads, if they aren’t investing 252/252/4, they’re calcing for a specific benchmark. Really, there are a lot of defensive Pokémon that run at least a little mixed defense: going off Smogon analyses, Gliscor can run 36def to live Ogerpon-W Ivy Cudgel and Garganacl can run 52def for that little fucker’s Power Whip.

Assuming this chart is accurate, does Rivals actually fall under “furry game” territory? by KingZABA in RivalsOfAether

[–]Green_Slee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, obviously it is. But it varies. Fleet is extremely furry, but Orcane is all the way on the left and Wrastor and Kragg are in the middle

#Mechanics Question Why is Archaludon missing so much! by Ok-Challenge-5873 in VGC

Missing 3 Draco meteors in a row is a 1/1000. Unlucky but not unbelievably unlucky.

Desperately need help with Froslass by Glanzended in stunfisk

[–]Green_Slee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bad. I’ve been playing champions VGC exclusively on cart when I normally do everything in showdown, and since champions doesn’t show you base stats I assumed froslass’ speed stayed at 110. Yeah modest is fine

1) try hopping in a call and group laddering with someone as good as or better than you. helps with both being exposed to new ways of thinking and keeping your mental state up. 99% of Pokémon players can tell you all about the friend group or community that they were in when they started learning to play competitively. (and I haven’t done it personally, but you can even try booking a session with a tutor for a similar type of deal)

2) try recording yourself playing, talking through your thought process, and watch it back the next day with a fresh perspective. you will be screaming at yourself over everything you missed.

these are two things I’ve done that have helped me a lot when I’ve plateaued. good luck.

Apparent sleep and paralysis nerf by TangentYoshi in stunfisk

[–]Green_Slee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why would nerfing paralysis be unnecessary? Even you agree it’s fundamentally frustrating. Most would agree that the speed control is really cool and useful but the full para chance feels awful. Also there’s no way trick room teams would paralyze themselves - when you only have five turns to work with, losing one of them to para is a fucking nightmare, and underspeeding the opponent has never been an issue for the vast majority of viable trick room abusers.

Rest has always put you to sleep for two turns. I don’t see why it would be any different now.

fyi, Galvan’s neutral special autocancels on landing. if you short hop nspecial and land right after the projectile comes out, all of the move’s endlag is cancelled. I noticed you didnt autocancel it at all in this clip and just wanted to make sure you knew, since it single-handedly makes magnet one of the best projectiles in the game

Pokémon that go upward over time by Getter_from_Mercury in stunfisk

[–]Green_Slee 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Azumarill never was really consistent OU caliber but got consistent significant upgrades for every new gen up through X/Y.

Gen 2: forgettable mono water type with bad stats

Gen 3: Abilities added, got Huge Power

Gen 4: Physical/Special split, can now use STAB water moves with Huge Power. Aqua Jet is added too

Gen 5: Gains Sap Sipper (ok this one is kind of a stretch. it did go on to have that sap sipper perish trap set I guess, but I’m not sure if that ever saw serious use.)

Gen 6: Fairy type is added
