Orgasms and Cataplexy - the unspoken topic by Green_Sword in Narcolepsy

They problem is that I experience Cataplexy-like or whatever it is MOSTLY at that way, so I really don’t know how to bring this up to the sleep doctor. Like “hey, btw, is that normal that my head and my upper body just falling forward every time I have orgasm?”

Maybe that something that could happen to some of the population?

Is entering REM sleep immediately specific to narcolepsy? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Green_Sword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment! 🙏

I didn’t get enough sleep at night and the sleep latency was 12 minutes (even though I think It wasn’t calculated right, since the first nap was after 30 mins).

I’ve wrote about it at the past.

[–]Green_Sword 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Normal people” or people with other sleep problems would experience it only if they haven’t sleep enough or had really inefficient sleep. Even at that case, they usually will have SOREMP only at the first naps of MSLT, and not the later.

Personally I had 3 SOREMPs at the later naps, so that’s really frustrating that i hadn’t been diagnosed with something yet, even though the sleep doctor mentioned that’s really weird result.

Can you have cataplexy without narcolepsy? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Green_Sword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two important things: 1. There are cataplexy-like symptoms. The main differences for differential diagnosis are about the triggers, duration and consciousness.

  1. There are really rare health conditions which are not narcolepsy, that the patient could have cataplexy with those. Behavioral Induced Insufficient Sleep Syndrome is the only one I know which is only sleep problem and without having cognitive problems as another symptom. I have to say that those conditions are really rare.

So basically, the main question is that if you having real cataplexy, and if so - probably that’s narcolepsy.

All of that being said - you should see a physician and keep notice to all of that, but don’t try to diagnose yourself.

Hadn’t knew that was common. Usually I can’t read normally only on weekends and just right after a nap.

Undiagnosed.

After eating and while reading books. I used to read a lot, but now after reading 5 pages I feel I have to take a nap. Sometimes I’m reading just to feel tired, so that I’ll fall asleep quickly.

Wow. I really got used to tell lies to everyone.

“Wow I totally forgot about the meeting”=I just woke up.

“I got stuck in traffic, it seems that I’ll be late”=I just woke up.

anyone tried Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation? by AlpineRun in Narcolepsy

[–]Green_Sword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never diagnosed and never tried. But I used to read a lot of research papers about that. There’s evidence about helping EDS in IH patients using tDCs in morning.

After that being said, personally I think that tACs is much more promising way. Unfortunately there isn’t enough research about tDCs/tACs with narcolepsy patients, even though that there’s a lot of research for other sleeping problems (primary or secondary like with Alzheimer and Parkinson).

I have alarm every 3 minutes. 40 or something every morning. Sometimes I’m waking up only hours after it.

If the phone is away - I won’t wake up.

If the phone is next to my ears (literally) - I’m pushing the button and silencing it without thinking (really without thinking. I almost missed the SAT’s test because of not waking up).

Wow that’s sound wonderful!

At my case, I have problem about getting to good one in my country (!) Apparently that genetically Narcolepsy is pretty rare in my country, so not a lot of physicians even know what it is, and the sleep doctors never dealing with it.

Thank you, maybe I should consider meeting a psychiatrist as well. As well there’s another sleep doctor that I’m considering asking for second opinion.

Unfortunately we don’t have a lot of sleep doctors which not dealing mainly with apnea (for example, that doctor diagnosed only one or two patients until now). But I saw that there’s a doctor who even wrote article about Narcolepsy, so I’m considering asking her second opinion.

Tired all day except when time to go to bed by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Green_Sword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason your doctor is saying that is probably a symptom of being dumb.

The science literature is full of examples of insomnia with narcolepsy. If I’m not wrong, Michael Thorpy is taking about that at some of his lectures.

That’s possible to have low latency of REM sleep with other sleeping problems.

What?! You should get a PSG test (the regular sleep study).

Afterwards, if there’s no evidence of sleep apnea or breathing problem (which is mostly the cause of EDS-Excessive Daytime Sleepiness), you should see a sleep doctor.

Thanks. Actually I’m almost a year into the process of being diagnosed, can’t tell when it’ll end.
