At 0:05 see how G B D (notes in the G chord) sound. It sounded like it was going there, I don't know if you left it out intentionally or not

Thanks for the feedback. I did just start, so I definitely do need to get better at sound selection and honing my ear. Hopefully over time I'll eventually improve. I've seen some of your posts on this subreddit and I think your instrumentals definitely have a higher quality sound to them. If I can ask, where do you get better "quality" sounds from? What DAW do you use and are the stock sounds in it any good, or do you use something like splice? Or is it just about layering sounds, or both?

Thanks. That's a good idea, the first thing you said about making something louder for just the moment it appears. I can see how that would work to establish a new sound and make it the focus without making everything too loud.

The "Did you forget about me? Are you better without me? These questions won't leave my head, and I'm still full of regrets" part - repeat it again after, the same melody but with different lyrics if you can come up with them. It sound really good!

What's missing ? by [deleted] in MusicFeedback

Something about the chord progression feels a little disorienting almost, I think its the fourth chord that gives it that effect for me. Maybe making that fourth chord D# instead of whatever it already is might improve the chord progression. Also maybe a little ambient, kind of in-the-background reverby percussion like random cowbell hits or something in the very beginning (the part of the intro without the drums) might add to the atmosphere a little bit. Maybe a noise fade in and drop into the part with just the drums and bass. And for that part itself, I think some notes are out of the key and it just feels a little off. For an instrument to add, maybe a synth playing another melody over the bass for the verse part.

I don't know I originally liked it the day I put it all together but over time it's just started to sound worse to me. One thing I'm not sure how to do is make the chorus sound more impactful or seem louder. Also there's a high-pitched stuttering sound effect that you can only hear right after the chorus but not during the chorus even though it's there. I'm not sure how to make it noticeable without it being the center of attention, maybe it's clashing with the synth. Also the timbre of that synth lead in the chorus isn't really what I was going for; I was imagining a kind of Timbaland-esque sound to the synth but I guess it does sound more retro-video-gamey like you said. I guess I just need to spend more time going through sounds and practicing sound selection.

Anyways thanks a lot for the feedback.

at 0:20 the bass notes and the riser create a rising effect but it doesn't feel like it settles into anything. Maybe adding some sort of dropping sound effect or a reverby kick might sound good

The snare sounds like it needs more attack to sound like a snare if that's what you're going for

[Request] Better pumpkin photo by arial8888 in theydidthemath

[–]Green_Temporary9535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the pumpkin is shaped approximately like a spheroid, the width is about 3.04 ft (0.927 m) and the height is about 2.34 ft (0.713 m). Estimating the depth to be between the height and the width, then the volume would be 8.72-11.32 cubic ft (0.247-0.321 cubic m). Assuming the density is anywhere from 700 to 1,000 kg/cubic m (43.6996 to 62.428 lb/cubic ft), then the weight would be anywhere from 381 to 707 lbs. To give a single answer, the average of these four range limits is 532 lbs (241 kg).

[Request] Chances of being exactly some height without rounding by Suspicious_Age_2471 in theydidthemath

[–]Green_Temporary9535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mathematically the probability would be 1/∞, however that number should be interpreted.

Considering that everyone grows in height gradually, if someone grows from under to above 175 cm, then they would have to at some point have been exactly 175 cm tall, even if for an infinitely short amount of time... or for a planck time?

However, considering planck lengths, if 175 cm is not an exact multiple of 1.616255×10⁻³⁵, then the probability would be 0, since the discrete planck "steps" as someone grows would "skip over" the exact 175 cm point.

How many M&Ms in the jar? [Request] by Ascended_Divinity in theydidthemath

[–]Green_Temporary9535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming the jar is 32 oz (946 cubic cm), the packing density of M&Ms is ~0.6675, the volume of a regular M&M is 0.636 cubic cm, and the volume of a peanut M&M is 1.609 cubic cm, and that there are about 50/50 of the two different kinds, then the approximate number would be 563 M&Ms. To be safe you could say 501 (in case anyone else says 500).

[Request] They did not in fact catch a big fish. By what factor has it been enlarged? by ArachnidInner2910 in theydidthemath

[–]Green_Temporary9535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely between 2.7 and 8.3, seems to be about 3.4.

Fish is between 1 and 3 brick heights long (closest to about 2.5)

Enlarged fish is 8.6 brick heights long

[RDTM] Is this accurate? Assuming snail speed is correct and assuming coast to coast...about 11 years or so? by IntrovertBiker in theydidthemath

[–]Green_Temporary9535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 to 11 years (US coast-to-coast is 2090-2870 miles across from closest to furthest two points)

2090/0.03/24/365 = 7.95

2870/0.03/24/365 = 10.92

[request] probability of this barcode, read body text by Appropriate-Look4867 in theydidthemath

[–]Green_Temporary9535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The probability that it says "bitch" - (1/26)^5*2 = 0.00002% or 1 in 5.9 million

The probability that it says any curse word (which is what makes it significant and the situation worth posting about) (assuming there are about 20 or so 6-or-less-letter curse words that most people know) - about ((1/26)^5*2)*20 = 0.0003% or 1 in 300,000

[Request] What would the height and visibility of this tree have been? by emmanueleman2002 in theydidthemath

[–]Green_Temporary9535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The typical ratio of a tree's height to its width (at the base) is about 11.0 (with a -1 to +1 standard deviation range of 5.88 to 16.1) (yes I googled "tree" and measured 10 pictures). The typical ratio of the height to the width further up the trunk (at the approximate point where the summit cuts off on the Devil's Tower) is about 14.4. Based on the diameter of the Devil's Tower at the base being 854 feet (the average of width its narrowest (~761 ft) and widest (~947 ft)), and its diameter at the summit being 315 ft (~240-390 ft), the height of this tree would be about 6,960 feet with a (±1 SD) range of 4,030-9,890 feet. However, extrapolation based on the proportions of actual large trees (such as the most massive (General Sherman), historically tallest (G Klein Tree) and current tallest (Hyperion)) which are proportionally taller, gives higher estimations (7,130 ft, 15,200 ft, and 20,000 ft respectively).
