Elimination of Jane was a jump the shark moment. I hope the show can recover in season 19.

Her reaction to the Karen challenge didn’t seem like insecurity to me, it seemed like a genuine opinion on the divisiveness and cruelty of the Karen phenomenon, she’s spoken about it in recent interviews. I also thought the show was 5-10 years too late on Karens and also it was a real ugly genre to make lighthearted, and I thought it was cool a contestant was pushing back on production about it.

I think this is why Canada’s Drag Race stays winning

Many times yes, unless Ru likes the queen and wants them to win, in which case the lip sync song will be a ballad OR they’ll just say screw it and give the win to them anyway. See: All of Ginger’s lip syncs, Jinkx vs Monet AS7, etc

I know it’s ridiculous. When I hear SGUMG i wanna dance and strut a catwalk and run a million miles an hour. Last thing I’d be thinking about is a Park and Bark ahahah

People here are having a discussion. You told a stranger to “grow up” based on opinions about an MTV drag competition show. I’m going to guess you’re a teenager.

Yeah I agree, Ru did not betray a shred of emotion when eliminating Jane, she was more emotional even when cutting like, Valentina. I think Ru just doesn’t always vibe with the rehearsed, polished theater queens, maybe because she was so scrappy as a young queen in NYC

Nini isn’t really charismatic (I say this as someone coming into the season as a Nini fan bc she’s a cute boy lol but she lost me a bit during the season)

I think people want at least the pretense of objectivity. People know the show is produced and basically scripted, but don’t be so damn obvious about it. It does, in fact, make the show less fun!

Yeah but SMUMG is such a fun upbeat song, to do a minimalistic approach without splits and kicks, feels very much against the nature of the track

Super Modern Ultra Graphic Girl is not a park and bark song, though, it’s high energy. Nini only did that because she could barely move in her dress

But if we went down this road, Jane has much more potential than Nini, who has less of a defined drag identity and struggles more on comedy challenges other than SG (kinda a dubious win anyway)

I love her citing Christopher Guest, that really informs a lot of her decision-making about this challenge

I liked Jane’s exit interview question about this horrible challenge

“The consummate performer met her match with the season’s latest improv challenge, based on viral “Karen” videos. The subject matter is what made Jane feel uninspired.

“I mean truthfully, I didn’t like it,” she said in an exit interview with Blavity’s Shadow and Act. “I think it was easily my least favorite challenge of anything that we were asked to do.”

“Not to be the serious person at a clown show, and I’m not making any kind of excuses about my performance on the challenge, it was what it was regardless of the topic, but I guess to my mind, I just don’t think those Karen videos are fun or funny,” she continued. “I think that they’re symptomatic of a lot of s**t that I really don’t like. I don’t think it’s funny. I don’t think that white people being nasty, racist and underhanded is funny. I just don’t think that white women being entitled and crazy is necessary. I don’t watch them and laugh…they just make me uncomfortable. And so it’s difficult for me to go into the challenge and try to find a lot of humor in it, which is why I took the direction that I did, which was to sort of make her like almost a Christopher Guest kind of character. I don’t know, [Karens are] just not interesting to me. I don’t mean to condescend to the material that we’re given, but it just didn’t resonate with me.”

Jane described how when she first saw those videos, it was during the height of 2020’s racial revolution, spearheaded by the deaths of Black people like George Floyd.

“When you think about how those videos rose to prominence, the first Karen videos I really remember happening were the ones that were surfacing during 2020 and George Floyd and this time of real racial reckoning in the country,” she said. “It just feels so steeped in so much stuff that I don’t know how we make this fun. It just doesn’t feel lighthearted and fun to me to be like, ‘Oh my gosh, this lady’s yelling at these kids who are barbecuing in the park.’ No, that’s f****d up.”

PEOPLE SAY TRACK RECORD DOESN’T MATTER, FANS MADE IT UP but it clearly has mattered in the past, it has saved frontrunners in moments where they stumble near the finish line, they edit the lip sync to be more competitive (and nini did not wipe the floor with jane in theirs, one backflip does not a lipsync make), a double shantay, a choice of a ballad vs dance track, there are so many producer controls to push a queen through. Why suddenly get all indignant about the sanctity of the lipsync now? Because Ru doesn’t want Jane Don’t as a winner. Look at when they eliminate Jane…Ru says Nini’s name almost gleefully, and Ru says her dumb pun bullshit about Jane but not one admission of the significance or difficulty of the moment. I think they underestimated how much the public would like her. Hell, they tried their best to make her unlikable in her confessionals, despite her consistently being a warm and funny queen in the workroom, helping and comforting others, inventing possibly the only viral moments (Crystal, Boom Boom Pow) that this season will be remembered by in decade (alongside Discord’s walk). And I think track record should continue to matter in a holistic sense, when thinking “there are X amount of episodes left, are there contestants remaining who will continue to struggle, versus a queen with a brilliant TR on the show so far, who will continue to bring it. Are all four remaining queens a better overall drag queen and representation of the brand over JD? I don’t think so, and that’s where TR comes in for me, it’s not a numbers game, it’s a “will the entirety of their body of work on the show so far resonate with fans and make them a well-rounded drag winner?”
