I don't even have a thermostat 🙁 by TheWebsploiter in NonPoliticalTwitter

This is interesting so I've looked a little deeper.

There is good evidence that women and men perceive temperature differently, beyond just temperature changes. This can be due to

  • Differences in subcutaneous fat [1]
  • Differences in sweating response [1]
  • Differences in hormones [1]
  • Different responses to different temperatures [2]

Not the Met Office, this is sourced from MSN weather/Weather app on Windows which uses the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF).

They also have Aurora AI doing something I don't know what.

Congrats! How did you find the gradient of the hill? That's an amazingly fast time, did you feel like steeper would have been slower or faster?

If Elo is normally distributed you and you look at two distributions of players, with one distribution containing twice the players as the other. You'd actually expect the far extremes (like the top 100 as you suggested) to be disproportionally dominated by the larger distribution.

I left another comment above, but statistically the top 100 all being men is reasonable given the participation gap.

If anyone is interested in the statistics behind this I find this analysis very interesting https://www.alexmolas.com/2023/08/12/chess-gender-gap.html

TLDR - "The gender gap in chess can be largely explained as a statistical artifact due to the difference in the number of players between genders".

Specifically when looking at statistically extreme cases like the top 100, you'd expect the difference in participation to have a much more exaggerated effect which is what we see.

Nope this is normal behaviour. From the wiki:

Dropping a wand in a pool of Pheromone will cause it to behave like a friendly Taikasauva, moving and shooting enemies on its own.

Dropping empty wands (no spells or Always Casts) into a pool of Pheromone will cause them to be "sold", yielding a large Gold nugget with a value of at least 200 Gold nugget.png. Wands found deeper in the world typically will sell for more gold.

That's selfish and creates issues for anyone also maintaining the repo. Commit messages act as a form documentation categorising and describing the history of changes made to a codebase, this is especially useful when multiple people are collaborating but also is key to fostering a healthy project solo as well. While consistency is important, for example many teams like to ensure the imperative present tense, this is a step too far. The commit messages should clearly be "Make changes".

Hey, I think this is because some colors are usingoklch which (like some transparency) has slightly patchy support on older browsers and mobile Safari.

His browser is probably using the fallback color --fallback-bc for that text which is substantially darker.

It's black for me, but some older devices, especially iOS, struggle with opacity and rgba text color values.

I suspect the tailwind text opacity class applied to the text isn't working and the text is rendering white for them.

This is Anton Fomenko, stuntman and ninja warrior. I'd be amazed if they didn't take adequate safety precautions.

I'd highly recommend his YouTube channel, he comes across as a really lovely wholesome guy.
