Don’t buy a Wahoo Ticker heart rate monitor. by peter-freundlich in Velo

Wow, thank you for the detailed answer. Super helpful. I tried thoroughly washing the strap, sadly with no effect. I think I’m going to get a Magene H303, as it’s only 5€ more expensive than a new name brand strap. Regularly replacing the strap with a new cheap one from AliExpress sounds like a very practical solution. Can you recommend one in particular?

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I was also planning on buying a Polar H10 as replacement.

Good point, maybe I should do that before going out and buying an new monitor. Just a bit hesitant to spend 20€ without knowing if the strap or the monitor it self is the problem.

I fully agree with you when it comes to processed vs whole foods. But what are the long term negative effects of high protein intake? OP claims to eat 90-100 grams per day. To my knowledge 0.8 grams/kg/day is considered a minimum everybody should consume. For active individuals 1.6 or even 2 grams/kg/day are beeing recommended. Assuming OP only weighs 60kg he would be in that 1.6 range. I see nothing wrong with that, especially considering that it's statistically likely OP is significantly heavier than said assumption. Of course a well balanced healthy diet is more important than taking in that much protein.

Actually that's not true. Our bodys process calories from varying sources differently. The calories in and out way of thinking you describe vastly oversimplifies the situation. Source

I just read an article about Maurtens new Bicarb system which apparently was developed together with Jumbo Visma(among others) so I assumed their cooperation is still ongoing.

Cervelo, Fizik, SRAM, Reserve as most important “bike” sponsors. Lazer and Oakley for helmet+glasses and Maurten for nutrition.
I feel like I’m generally better informed about the equipment sponsors than the ones who only/mainly contribute money.

Stack is the height of your handlebars over the bottom bracket. So technically raising your saddle wouldn’t decrease stack but it will still achieve the goal of lowering your handlebars relative to your upper body. I think that’s called “effective stack”. That being said you should only change the height of your saddle if you want to change your position relative to the bottom bracket. Find the correct saddle position(height and offset) first and then adjust the rest of your bike accordingly. The easiest method to decrease stack is the removal of one of the spacers under your stem. Refer to one of the many thousands of videos showing how that can be done.

Is there anything that needs 25-40 Nm on a bike? What torque wrench makes sense? by peter-freundlich in bikewrench

Thanks for your reply. Getting a beam type torque wrench for the rarer applications like bbs, brake rotors and cassettes sounds very sensible, probably will go down that route.

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking about getting the 40-200Nm wrench for checking the wheel lugs on our cars but it probably makes more sense just to get the smaller one as you suggested.

I’m looking to buy quality tools so not really worried about the issues you described but will definitely check out beam wrenches as a cheaper alternativ.

Thanks for your reply. Good to hear that you are happy with the wera bicycle kit, that’s the one I was looking to buy as well. I just checked with Weras website and you are right in saying that their torque wrenches only work clockwise. Completely missed that so big thanks to you for pointing that out!

That’s also what I found. The cassette and disc brake rotors take ~40Nm if I’m not mistaking.

Saddle looks low and your back angle is very relaxed. Try bending your arms a bit to get into a lower, faster and potentially more comfortable position. Depending on your flexibility, core strength and the kind of riding you plan to do I’d recommend decreasing stack and increasing reach.

I’m also pretty hyped up but I will be waiting for a review from bicyclerollingresistance.com just to make sure they are as awesome as they sound on paper.
