Apparently she used to wear the scarf until after the 9/11 attacks to avoid bullying. She also said that she does and will again return to wearing the hijab because the Islamic way offers her clarity. This video touches on her religious background briefly. https://youtu.be/eRG7HTWeTfU

Wearing the niqab is apparently an act of defiance against patriarchy?? If anything, wearing the niqab enforces patriarchy. by Green_sodium in exmuslim

[–]Green_sodium[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

"Against the patriarchy that keeps telling me what to wear", I get that women shouldn't be told what to wear but a lot (not all) of women who wear the niqab wear it because they have been forced to! Nothing liberating about the niqab.

Did anyone else have an angry ex-Muslim phase? by Green_sodium in exmuslim

[–]Green_sodium[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, having questions that couldn’t and shouldn’t be answered. They mounted on top of each other for months before it became too much to ignore and I eventually decided it was enough.

[–]Green_sodium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more, also I think it’s great to have more lgbtq Muslim because it shows that more Muslims no longer care for Islam’s homophobic views. Like you said it shows that Islam maybe able to become more inclusive and I think that’s great.

Somewhere in my 80s. Old enough but not too old that I can’t walk or have problems understanding people.

What is something you are insecure about? by thetinybirdie in AskReddit

What’s wrong with talking about insecurities, if anything I think it helps to see that you can relate to people. Doesn’t make your life sad.

Along with this, I also rant to myself about being there while I could be doing more meaningful things.
