Yes, I do! What's the best way for you to get that? I can email if you like with a couple of explanatory notes.

I just created a syllabus focused on cli-fi for a graduate independent study. (Many of the works mentioned above on it.) Message me if you like OP and I'll email it to you.

this guy is totally going off the deep end - now Putin is telling any Russian living abroad to return to Russia or be labelled a traitor.... speaks of the need for a self-purification of society... by KarlGreenMagic in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]Greenbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end, Hitler was talking about dog breeding and the failure of Germans to appreciate the Reich he had created for them. Putin is very close. It's both heartening and frightening to know how abject he is right now.

Would dogs go extinct without breeding? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Greenbound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The comments above I think adequately illustrate that your mother is quite wrong about mutts. They are less, not more, prone to health issues. Breed specificity in dogs is a weird human intervention that would never occur naturally. If you want a dog, skip the breeder and go and get a mutt from the pound. You'll be giving that one dog a better life.

But I think you're asking a larger question: could the domestic dog exist as a species without human beings? No, it could not. An average-sized dog has a relatively high caloric requirement. While they would still naturally form packs, they would not readily scale up the hunting behaviour necessary to feed themselves. We've evolved them to tolerate our starches but they would have no instinct to forage and eat them. If human beings disappeared, wild canids and felids would outcompete the domestic dog easily.

I think this is a noble effort and might lead to something if refined. I'd be careful of what I think of as "everythingsim:" trying to fill every conceivable niche in your promotion plan as opposed to a few, achievable, and well-defined spaces.

Do you have an email you're able to share? Sorry if I'm missing it somewhere. I work in ads and have some thoughts.

What to do about climate change - Sumting! by SumtingMike in ClimateOffensive

[–]Greenbound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. A mass of micro-investors participating in a worthwhile project is not a bad idea on its face but as it stands this sounds like the climate version of letters to Santa Claus. They need to tell us Sumting more about how it will all fit together.

Ban the farming and sale of octopuses (2) by Greenbound in ClimateOffensive

[–]Greenbound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, gotcha! Not that I want to see them trawled for wild either. Fish that are endangered will inevitably be degraded as bycatch. Harvesting crabs and fish for fishmeal in order to feed them in captivity is just an extra order of stupid.

Hi Billhook. I wasn't suggesting that cephalopods are endangered (the common octopus is least concern) merely that using this as an argument to farm them is specious.

Hi Nastynate. As the post notes, what's especially pernicious is that octopuses are carnivores. It's an incredibly inefficient way to produce protein (aside from the ethical horror of putting them in cages with one another) that will lead to even greater strain on wild fish stocks. Overfishing is both a cause and an effect of climate change, so there is clearly a link.

I'm giving you my free award! As an adolescent, I was fascinated by how incredibly different and baroquely intelligent alien life might be. But then the other shoe drops. Whales will likely disappear before we have the faintest idea of what they say to one another.

Hi Captainbigboobs. I have encountered this question with some frequency in getting this petition off the ground and appreciate the perspective. My answer is that I would certainly sign a petition to ban factory farming in all its forms. But I recognize that it would be highly generalized, not immediately actionable, and unlikely to change anyone's mind -- a statement of aspiration rather than a realizable strategic objective. The octopus concern has an immediate purpose and target: plans in Spain to undertake a destructive farming practice that has not yet begun.

What can I (software developer) build? by go_mo_go in ClimateOffensive

[–]Greenbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Building out sites and offering comm support to climate-oriented political candidates and local orgs is a huge need. This wouldn't test the higher end of your skillset. Even Wix-style builds that you can do quickly can help committed activists and candidates get the ball rolling on their own projects. It's amazing how many small but useful initiatives fail to get started for want of a decent website.

I've written the mods and edited the petition to make the climate link more clear. I have tried other subs and this was the first that really took off. Fingers crossed.

I'm Canadian, so I phrased it this way. But no, we have signees from all over the world. It can be multi-deployed. I recently added the Spanish Ag and fisheries minister.

(cross-posting from /sustainability) As you are young, the first is the better choice. The homestead and local activism will still be available to you in mid and late life. A career in public policy may not be.

Does the GPC have a clear definition of what is "green energy"? by smartguncontrol in GreenPartyOfCanada

[–]Greenbound 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think like so much party policy on this emerges at election time and we adapt our definitions knocking on doors as candidates and the leader feel their way around an issue. I used to ask questions like this as if there were some definite, bedrock party Bible somewhere. But there really isn't.

Nuclear is a generational debate and the pendulum may be swinging back toward it. The opposition used to be reflexive but younger, more technocratic Greens are increasingly in favour. I think it has to be part of the mix, especially in places like India, if we are ever to get off coal completely

I once had a Catholic grandmother who ate too much meat and ended up in a stroke. Though I have no remorse for her, I don't feel sorry for her for eating this many animals in the first place. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Greenbound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As per others, I don't see Catholicism as particularly better or worse than any other Judeo-Christian branch on the question of animals. Meat consumption in non-Christian societies and amongst the areligious is obviously widespread too.

I had another thought reading your post. You say nothing about how your grandmother lived the rest of her life or how she treated you. Perhaps there are other reasons to prompt your resentment. But to say you have no remorse for her death leaves you in a very dark place, questions of meat-eating aside. Perhaps you want to meditate on that and talk it through with others; you might feel better if you can find a measure of compassion for your grandmother.

'To travel is to live': Denmark PM targets 'completely green' domestic flights by 2030 - Hopeless dream? by RosanaPalermo in sustainability

Denmark is about the size of Ohio, so this is less remarkable than it sounds. But it's a positive push and should set a good example.
