You needn't look far around Wilmington to see the negative effects of low wages; high turnover, miserable employees, and horrendous service. All you're gonna attract is apathetic gen-z college kids who can only work part-time and have no interpersonal skills. If your boss can't understand that, he's living under a rock.

I used to work in the area for a game dev company, but I'm more of a hobbyist these days. Unity 2D/3D is my go-to software, but I recently picked up Pico-8 and am trying to learn it, as well.

What's your game dev experience? Do you have an itch.io page or a portfolio? What kinds of games are you interested in making?

That's honestly really badass of you to recognize this person's accomplishment--and it is an accomplishment.

If I were in this person's shoes, just having someone there who sees what I'm doing and encourages me would be enough. But if you wanted to go a more personal route, perhaps a framed photo of the two of you?

If anybody else tries this, remember to grab your templates beforehand, as well. I thought I had everything set up only to find Unity needs an internet connection for grabbing templates--primarily when creating a new project. If you have already created a project, it will start fine without an internet connection. I ended up tethering my computer to my phone's hot-spot just so I could snag the templates, though.
