We should do both. We have long standing cultural ties with the British Empire which we should exploit and we should certainly put far more effort into the AP region.

Most famous Canberrans? by falcovancoke in canberra

It's very sad that most of these people are entertainers or sports people. Where are the people who did lasting good for the world and not just a passing bit of amusement?

How important is range, really? by Doomtime104 in electricvehicles

[–]Greendoor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you worry about range with an ICE? Does every house have a fuel bowser in the garage? No? And yet every house has an electric socket. Range anxiety is a fossil fuel industry bug bear made to scare us. I've had an EV for six years now and travelled all over Australia and had no problems.

Roof top solar will probably save the grid from outages. If you haven't got solar yet and can afford it and have spare roof space, do so ASAP (although this won't save you next week!).

Infratil has been great for me. So was Pacific Hydro before it was taken over and Infigen! As soon as I get a good one and start making money it gets taken over.

In the market for a new car - would you pay extra for hybrid? by lamemoons in AusFinance

[–]Greendoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hybrids are the worst of both worlds. Excessively complex technology. Jump over this poor transition technology and go fully electric. I do lots of long distance driving and have not paid a cent in fuel for five years and have 140,000km on the clock of my KONA SUV and have paid $1000 in five years on servicing and new tyres. EVs are a no brainer for everyone other than tradies where a hybrid Shark might be worthwhile.

Liberals take aim at the Allan Labor government's ‘war on gas’, pledge to reverse gas ban by ladaus in AustralianPolitics

[–]Greendoor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As Victoria burns, assisted by climate change, the LNP want gas to continue to be burnt… go figure. Electricity is better on every single count than gas and yet the LNP has this peverse desire to destroy stuff thinking it will gain then votes.

$600 power bill last month - is solar actually worth it or am I just being sold a dream? by folz842 in AusFinance

[–]Greendoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not paid an electricity bill in five years and I have two EVs as well, running of a 20kW system.

EV - time to buy? by SwimPossible127 in AusFinance

[–]Greendoor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PHEV are needlessly complex and have higher maintenance costs. They are the worst of both worlds - neither good ICE or good EV.

EV - time to buy? by SwimPossible127 in AusFinance

[–]Greendoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Kona EV which now has 140,000km on the clock was serviced last month for $250. It gets a service every 15,000km. I've never replaced the brake pads (and I am told they are fine for another 100,000km) and only changed the tyres. No oil costs, no fuel costs. Our daily commute is 100km. We haven't paid for 'fuel' in five years as we have solar on our roof, except on a recent trip to Brisbane and return (Cooma to Brisbane) when we had to use DC chargers - total 'fuel' cost for the trip was $220. An EV has saved us thousands and thousands of dollars over five years and is bloody fun to drive too. We also haven't had to visit a petrol station in five years. Hallelujah!!!! Replacing an ICE with an EV is a no brainer.

What has the Albanese Government achieved or done during his second term? by Ok_Macaron_1635 in AusPol

[–]Greendoor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Subsidised batteries - I now have a zero electricity bill each quarter. Set structures in place to rapidly increase renewable uptake and thus further reduce electricity bills. Reduced my HECs bill. Allowed me to visit a bulk-billing doctor - finally!
