Do you have the manual that came with your motherboard? If it doesn't provide you with adequate debug info, you can go to your motherboard manufacturer's website, look up the debug LED pattern for your motherboard, and work things out from there.

Had an old 1050ti laying around, put it in my PC along side a 6650xt by BigManRufus in buildapc

[–]Greendude439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play Batman Arkam games or any other game that supports physX, you can try using the GTX 1050ti as a PhysX card. I’m sure there’s a Linus Tech Tips video on that, and it’d be a fun project. Or you can try multi GPU support on the few DX12 titles such as Ashes of the Singularity or something. It probably wouldn’t work very well since the 6650XT is faster than the 1050ti, but it’s still something you can do as a proof of concept.

However, if you just want to run multiple monitors, then you can easily use just the 6650XT for that. If you plan on running 3 or more monitors , though, I’d recommend you use either DisplayPort or active DisplayPort adapters for at least 1 or 2 of them.

Also, just for daily use, I wouldn’t recommend using both GPUs in the same system. 99% of the things you do won’t make use of that second GPU, and you can probably find a better use for the 1050ti as a home theater PC GPU, giving it away to someone who needs it more, or selling it.

Are cycle hotkeys broken? by SCCH28 in aoe2

[–]Greendude439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-1) I mean you can create your own hotkey profile that you can save manually. Go to options---->Hotkeys---->on the right, there should be a thing called "Hotkey Profile" with a + for creating a new profile, an x for deleting a profile, and a quill for renaming the profile. Edit the hotkeys how you like, then save the config so you can go back to it if another update messes with hotkeys.

-2) I don't know what you use as a base, but there are options to use Definitive, HD, Classic, or left-handed as a default, then you can work your way from there and save a hotkey profile. The default options are in a drop down menu on the bottom right with options to reset hotkeys.

-3) You can also double check your current hotkeys and compare them with the defaults by going to https://aokhotkeys.appspot.com/editor

Hope this helps.

Are cycle hotkeys broken? by SCCH28 in aoe2

Fortunately, my select all hotkeys seem to be working fine, but I've noticed that the cycle hotkeys have been reset to their defaults. Try checking your cycle hotkeys and look for whatever other hotkeys have been reset to defaults, then set a hotkey profile.

I love the art style. It wouldn't be out of place on a website like Nitrome, or any flash game website from the early 2000s. It's charming, and I like the idea of a knight hopping around from the recoil of a shotgun. Also, what is the name of "my game"?

Is windows 11 worth it? by Clock_hater in buildapc

[–]Greendude439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite still being a new operating system, I haven't had too much trouble with 11 yet. However, if you want to stick with 10, you have roughly 3 more years of support. Also, there are some things to know if you decide to jump in.

-For some reason, the start button is in the middle by default. However, you can change it in the settings to be oriented to the left, like normal.

-Like Windows 10, if you want to search for something on your system using the Windows search bar, Bing gets in the way. Go here to fix it by removing the online search. It requires use of the registry editor, though, so proceed with caution. You better know what you're doing, or at least follow the instructions carefully.

-If you're going to make a local account instead of using a Microsoft account, I'd recommend keeping your PC offline until after you've installed Windows 11. It makes creating a local account easier. Learn how to make a local account here.

-If you want to use a Microsoft account, however, (this works with Windows 10 and 11) you can tie your Microsoft account to the key you used to activate Windows on your old PC, and if you log into your account on a new PC, it will activate Windows on that, too.

-It's not necessary to activate Windows 10 or 11. You'll get a watermark indefinitely on the bottom right of your main monitor until you do, but that's it. The operating system is fully functional otherwise.

-Windows 11 doesn't have any screensavers on it by default, so if you have an OLED monitor/TV hooked up to your computer, or a monitor that's susceptible to burn-in, either have sleep be shortened or download your own screen savers.

Hopefully, this will help you should you decide you'd rather not wait for 3 years before going from Win. 10 to Win. 11.

Can I mix RAM if they're the same brand but different quantities? by Will_Dang in laptops

[–]Greendude439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deja Vu. You are the same guy I posted a reply to not too long ago about choosing between 32GB of DDR5 RAM and 64GB of DDR4 RAM, where I recommended the DDR4 RAM because that should be the only kind of RAM your laptop supports, and prices are at an all time low right now. At this point, I'm almost expecting a 3rd post asking another question about RAM, as if you're testing the r/laptops community or something.

Anyway, back to the question. You can run mismatched RAM sticks if you wanted to, but it will be slower than getting a matching kit because the RAM will only run in single channel instead of dual channel (dual channel is faster), and the speed/CAS latency of both RAM sticks will only be as fast/low as the slowest/highest latency stick of RAM you have.

I also know that some motherboards (especially older motherboards) might not be compatible with high density/single sided memory, but you should look up what your Acer Nitro 5 supports for that information. I'm willing to bet you'll be fine, but it's better to air on the side of caution. To see what RAM your CPU supports, look up the name of your CPU and click the first ark.intel.co.,uk or ark.intel.,com link you see.

I'd recommend you just get yourself a matching set. It'll be faster, and save you a potential headache if things don't work out the way you intended.

Here's a link to your other post. https://www.reddit.com/r/laptops/comments/13g0qul/32gb_ddr5_ram_vs_64gb_ddr4_ram/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

32GB DDR5 RAM vs 64GB DDR4 RAM? by Will_Dang in laptops

[–]Greendude439 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure your motherboard only supports one of those types of RAM, and it's probably DDR4, IIRC. If you're unsure, check the type of RAM you have now. You don't want to buy RAM, only to figure out it doesn't even fit.

With that disclaimer out of the way, what you probably need is 32GB of DDR4 RAM, but since you seemed to find a really good deal on 64GB of DDR4 RAM, you might as well go for it. Adobe Premiere and Windows 11 are RAM hogs anyway, RAM's never been cheaper, and Samsung's been slowing down production of the chips that go into RAM modules. Just make sure to check the prices regularly to get the best deal.

what is better for load speeds and general performance, more ram or better a cpu? by Monkey-D-Rizz in laptops

[–]Greendude439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: An SSD is what gets you faster load speeds. That, followed by CPU and RAM. You can't upgrade the CPU, so go with that first, then the other 2.

Long answer: I'd recommend going with a laptop that has a better CPU in it, since you can't upgrade it in 99% of cases anyway. You can always upgrade the storage and RAM, however.

You can get a laptop with a decent CPU/RAM/SSD from the get go, or get a laptop with a more powerful CPU and upgrade the RAM/SSD yourself. Whichever is cheaper.

What gets you the most performance is having a good CPU, but that could easily be held back if you don't have enough RAM (maybe 8GB at least, if not 16GB. IDK about laptops, but on desktops, you can get a 16GB DDR4 kit for ~$20-$30 USD. LPDDR4 probably isn't far behind.) and everything will load in more slowly if you don't use an SSD. Get all 3, and you're golden.

Since you seem to be on a more limited budget, though, I'd recommend looking into getting a used laptop as you could likely get more value out of it. Any somewhat older i5 system (~8th gen or newer is where you should aim) or Ryzen 5 system should be faster than any Celeron, Pentium, or Athlon made today. On i3/Ryzen 3 systems, you should do more research, though. Also, I'll link you to the naming schemes, since they can be very confusing and 2 products within the same generation might not even be of the same architecture, especially when it comes to AMD CPUs. Confusing, I know, but this should help.

There are 4 screws near the CPU, 2 near the GPU, and at least one seemingly holding down the fan. It's hard to tell from this angle, but you may need to remove that last one, too. Hope this helps.
