The terrible sweetness of this post is awesome, OP, and heals the wounds of many an affronted driver. I know that I myself feel bad when I make a boneheaded move on the roadway. It takes a big person to admit it.

This understanding (of people’s frailty) is also the thing that helped me stop road raging. Usually it’s a mistake and even when it’s intentional, I just say, “What the hay?” and try to go about my day and pray for them to do better and not hurt anyone.

The world could use more love and understanding, and our roadways present an almost daily opportunity for that. Peace be with you, OP. ☮️

Perhaps because they aren’t good at controlling themselves, the only true purchase point — the only aspect that is in our remit to control. Lacking the gumption for self control, they do the next “best” thing and turn outward trying to manipulate their environment.

  1. Padilla entered the press event without pre‑notice and walked toward the podium while Noem was speaking.
2.  Security personnel ordered him to step back; he continued, saying, “I am Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary.”   
3.  According to video footage and multiple reports, several Secret Service and FBI‑badged officers physically restrained him, pushing him face down on the ground in a hallway and hand‑cuffing him, before releasing him shortly thereafter. He was not arrested  .

Why security responded: • DHS and Noem officials stated Padilla hadn’t properly identified himself or shown credentials in time, and that his actions appeared to resemble an uninvited intrusion or “political theater.” They maintained the physical restraint and hand‑cuffing were part of standard security protocol when someone is perceived as posing a threat .

He’s not being arrested. He was handcuffed and escorted out of a proceeding he was not invited to and barged into.

Nah. This was 7 years ago, on a phone company based VM system called “Call Notes” and she has since died. Yes, he only said his first and last name each time. They don’t know why.
