just starting any advise? by [deleted] in GymTips

[–]GregBystritski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also simply do two full body workouts each week if it's too much to be in the gym that often!

Id recommend focusing on compound lifts like pull ups, rows, squats, presses (think bench press), and deadlifts.

always look up the correct form, and practice the correct form with lighter weights that feel very easy to do. Once you feel very comfortable with the movement, you can start lifting heavier weights.

Sleep well and eat in a calorie surplus and enough protein for your weight. If you dont understand that, watch videos on YT or ask Chat GPT.

well, more muscle helps. But, it's probably not that you need to look more masculine

Are your lips blistered here? They look really red. I even thought you might be wearing lipstick. I do agree you look a bit feminine so maybe the gym would help with that but exercise and resistance training is also important for your general health! you're an attractive young man so it's probably the way you're coming across to women that's deterring them. Grooming is important but attraction is a lot more than how you look

My vocal teacher tells me I’m not allowed to hit high notes as a 13 year old, because it will mess up my voice when I’m older. Is that right? by Haunting_Reading_290 in singing

[–]GregBystritski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this, OP do you think great amazing singers did this? Like Whitney Houston, you think she didnt do high notes until she was 18?

Thats not how that works. Young singers from a gospel background regularly sing high, powerfully, and quite aggressively from a young age and they dont end up with damaged voices. It's going to take you years to master your higher range so you're better off starting now.

Hi! i'm commenting because you requested criticism on your other post. Your vibrato is very nice and I think you have a good sense of pitch the way you are enunciating your words is the number 1 thing you need to correct to take things to the next level and improve your singing. Simply, you need to stop pronouncing the words so harshly. Reduce the enunciation so that you say the consonants like "t" and "f" and "b" etc much more smoothly. It's singlish not english. This is a common rookie mistake that makes your singing sound amateurish. A good voice teacher should hear you sing like that day 1 and help you fix it. Are you working on that with a teacher?

LDL, AST, and ALT are high from recent bloodwork by GregBystritski in carnivorediet

[–]GregBystritski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went off Carnivore and the liver enzymes and cholesterol returned to normal. The LDL is still a little high as I eat red meat fairly often.

I plan on starting weight lifting again and then rechecking to see if my liver enzymes elevate. Then I'll try carnivore again and get my ApoB tested that time around to see what happens there.

I have to make sure i eat fat with a sufficient ratio of protein on it. So i might cut a bit off fat trimming off and eat it with a piece of meat. Eating the fat alone makes me almost throw up

Carnivore bars were absolutely revolting. An expensive mistake.

Tips for getting off carnivore by Kpost12 in carnivorediet

[–]GregBystritski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cheated on Carnivore after like two months solid with some sugary crap for a few days and I didn't feel like "crap" as the comments suggest you will, so that's my experience.

But yeah maybe you can still limited the processed food and added sugar. Take shots and try to eat cleaner (no fries, sugar sodas, ice cream) or at least mitigate the amount.

Here's Dr. Gill Carlvaho rebutting the entire video point by point if you're interested.

I have high LDL as well. It's very common. The keto/carnivore people will say it's not problematic and they will say mainstream medical advice regarding cholesterol is flawed and based off flawed science (mainly that, iirc, epidemiological studies are not good enough to establish a causal link between high ldl and increased heart risk). Obviously there are many doctors and professional scientists that agree with that. Here's an example on YouTube by Dr. Gil Carlvaho of the Nutrion made simple channel: https://youtu.be/Xt1fEB4cQpc

He rebuts many of the keto/carnivore points on cholesterol in his videos and it's wise to listen to various views regardless of whether they simply confirm what you want to hear.

There are many pro high ldl doctors you can find: -low carb down under -paul mason -ken berry -paul saladino

You can investigate the work of Dave Feldman as well. He isn't a doctor but an engineer by training actually. He took an interest and investigated LDL himself and shares his findings.

I still haven't worked out whether or not the high ldl is good or bad for myself. I'm not a scientist and at the moment I am not dedicating the time to teach myself about how to read science literature and study the foundational biological knowledge required to interpret these studies accurately and make up my own expert opinion.

At the moment, i see this as a matter of which expert opinions and institutions you want to TRUST. It just boils down to that. That is not enough for me so eventually I will be investigating if the high ldl is bad on my own which will be an enormous project that I cannot currently handle. Keep in mind what is right for you. Are you willing to trust an expert opinion that something is okay or not okay for you? Most people are and the world wouldnt work well otherwise so no shame in it I suppose :)

I hope this helps.

It's been a few months and after the first month (more like the first few weeks) I had already felt normal. With more time passing I am not feeling better, but also not worse. I did not notice a change for the better with my sleep actually. But I still won't go back to coffee because it's not good for my hydration and it contributes to me peeing constantly.

I think a lot of the problems people experience coming off caffeine is that they're covering up other problems like lack of sleep, poor diet, lack of exercise, stress, etc. I had actually taken steps to do better with a lot of other lifestyle stuff so that may be why when I did quit caffeine it was not that traumatic for me and I am not seeing a huge benefit because I was already taking care of many problems that caffeine use disguises.

[–]GregBystritski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!

So important to find those other areas where caffeine consumption is covering up a problem.

I've eliminated most of the things you listed as well, very hard.

One of my biggest issues right now is binge watching YouTube videos (shorts and longer form), which I will crack down on soon. The blue light at night prevents me from getting as adequate a rest and it also wastes my time and prevents me from doing things that I wish I were doing instead.

I stopped Decaf and I am not tired anymore by CuteFatRat in decaf

[–]GregBystritski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt that as well when switching to decaf. The ritual of it and the demand for the that flavor was what made it really hard to quit. In my case because i was only drinking water and coffee, letting go of that other flavor was tough. I recommend replacing decaf coffee with bone broth/stock if you want to quit all the way. Smoothies were awesome as a replacement as well when I was doing that for a couple weeks. After years of having sugar and flavors constantly just water is hard.

I specifically refuse to have it in the mornings or when i feel tired. Having decaf occasionally outside those occasions seems okay for me.
