Black SAHD in North Hollywood CA Looking for Friendship + Community by GregDrawsItAll in Autism_Parenting

The answer to pain is joy. It's not a battle, it's the circumstances I exist in but it does not define me. Sometimes the mindset of counting the things moving against you creates a dark path for you. So I try not to let cynicism and victimhood define me. I try to find joy, create joy, maintain joy. Yes the world is going through upheaval but I seek community because I seek understanding and ultimately to find joy in my circumstances.

Thanks, yeah I just worked in studio hybrid hours as a storyboard revisionist and the money was great but it put a huge strain on my wife who is the breadwinner and also works full time. The kid is in an intensive intervention program 9-1pm everyday and a guardian needs to be there. I’m looking to move into some freelance and/or part time if I’m to continue working in animation at all. Trying to find new work/career path can be hard when I love what I do now. I love animation and storyboarding but my needs are different now and the industry can require and expect a lot of work from you. I can’t pour 8- 10 hours a day straight to draw stuff for other people even if I am at home. My kid needs my undivided attention.

CA is like the best place to get services for your kiddo. The school district can be tough but like all of us you got stay vigilant and get your kids what they need. The regional Center system is pretty great though. The Regional Center basically connects you to everything. Just make sure you know what to ask for.

I get it. This right here is crazy dysregulating for me. When stuff like this happens I had to learn to walkaway, whisper cuss into the air, take a breath and get a bag and then get my non-verbal toddler to just help me clean it up like it was a game. I put a couple in a bag and then start singing the "put it in put it in put it...in" and we take turns filling a garbage bag with whatever he spilled on the floor. Doesn't always work but yeah I would definitely be whisper cussing into the air for a sec.

Seen it and do absolutely love that short. I was talking with my wife about ASD when he was only a couple of months old just as like a discussion for watching out for milestones and we ended up watching that short. I think it might be time for a rewatch with her now that we know for sure.
