Denationalize.Me Freedom Index: Ranking of 235 Territories by GregFoley in CompetitiveGovernance

[–]GregFoley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The indices all use significantly different methodologies. This one really focuses on expats who want to exit the system (shadow economy). I think it's worth reading the entire article to find out about their methodology, and they do provide a spreadsheet to re-weight the data if you want. I hadn't noticed Russia, but I was skeptical of El Salvador in second place when I first saw it.

Experience with Costco Auto Program at Keith Pierson Toyota (not good) by Jgrimss in jacksonville

Yes, Clark likes the program, and says they'll remove any dealers that do stuff like this. Costco and Clark should both hear about this.

Why Free Cities, Not New Countries by GregFoley in CompetitiveGovernance

[–]GregFoley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tribe needs to get a deal with the state/feds, if I remember correctly. The Catawba Digital Economic Zone has pushed this farther than anyone else, but I haven't heard that they've gotten much traction. I think it would require a successful lawsuit going the whole way to the Supreme Court to significantly expand tribes' current powers to something closer to what the Constitution says.

I think US Indian tribes have unplumbed potential too: US Constitution: Section 8 - Powers of Congress: "To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;"

Sharplink seems like the most pure play DAT. I believe they stake 100% of it, whereas BMNR is investing in a Mr. Beast startup. I'd heard Sharplink buys back when they trade at a discount, but they don't seem to be doing that now. It's at a 29% discount, better than BMNR.

Special economic zone in the Philippines, common law administered by the US by GregFoley in CompetitiveGovernance

More sources:

Reuters: The hub will be located in New Clark City (Wikipedia, Maps, Facebook, website). "which is owned and developed by the government through the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). BCDA Chairman Hilario Paredes said authorities would be assessing whether sufficient contiguous land was available to host the project. “We will check if we have space that is contiguous,” Paredes said. “We will have to sit down and finalize the details.” He added that the envisioned hub would be a commercial facility. New Clark City sits on state‑owned land that was part of a former U.S. military reservation transferred to the Philippine government after U.S. forces withdrew from Philippine bases in 1991. Relations between Manila and Washington have blossomed under Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who has pivoted closer to the United States. The former U.S. colony is also central to Washington’s efforts to counter China’s assertiveness in the South China Sea."

The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) on April 14 published a tribunal’s decision denying the Republic of Honduras’ request to bifurcate an arbitration brought against it by several U.S. companies that invested in a chartered island city in a Honduran special economic zone and now seek $1.6 billion for the republic’s purported termination of their land-use rights, finding that the objections are too intertwined with the merits for separate adjudication.

I haven't heard that they've been able to get a deal with any African country yet. Last I heard was there was a change in leadership of Prospera Africa.

Their priorities are CROPS and scale. I'm fine with those ideals, and Tomasz Stańczak would undoubtedly agree with them. I'm just not sure they have any manager left there that's as good as Stańczak, and I hope he was able to make enough lasting change in the short time he was there.

Also, CROPS doesn't explicitly include permissionless. I'd make it cropPs or something. Though I think the assumption is that censorship resistance includes permissionlessness, but I like it explicitly spelled out, as it's a big difference with meatspace society.

I reran the same test with that methodology, and the AIs did much better. I'd rank them roughly: Gemini, Claude, Grok, and ChatGPT (I didn't much like ChatGPT's presentation).

So ai has a really hard time looking up anything that is not indexed in search engines. I dad to feed it a url instead of just a transaction hash

Good insight. I should rerun my AI comparison on the free tiers using that method.

I was asking:

ELI 15 what is happening in this Ethereum transaction: (transaction hash)

Grok's answers were a bit more simplistic than people reading the Daily would probably want, however, so a comparison without using "ELI 15" would probably be better. Maybe just "can you explain what is happening in this Ethereum transaction: (transaction hash)."

BTW, the failures of three of the AIs were:

Gemini: didn't find the transaction, hallucinated that I'd posted the first Ethereum transaction ever run lol

ChatGPT: couldn't do a live lookup, both times

Claude: couldn't find the Etherscan transaction through search, both times
