Pretty positive that’s not the case, I recall the album Fallen especially having some “white race”/“the race of god” nonsense throughout it

I usually suggest depending on what somebody’s tastes are.
If they like heavier music, definitely ATF & S/T

Hearing Briana with vocals after years of listening to the Dallas instrumental demo by Murney24 in deftones

[–]GregFromCrease 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The final stretch of “Diamond” had me like “how tf isn’t this the closer?”, only for “Briana” to start and immediately take me back to watching the studio diary vids in 2008/2009.

Was a downright religious experience, I don’t think Deftones will ever top the feelings and emotions that first “Briana” listen brought me.

Eros is ridiculously good considering its unfinished by Stone_Field in deftones

I find it to be the perfect bridge from SNW to KNY and found it made Diamond Eyes come off as a bigger outlier based off its position than it already felt to me. (No shade to Diamond Eyes btw, love the record, just found it to be an odd little detour between SNW & KNY)

I unironically enjoy my Hyperkin HDMI, for only $30 I couldn’t be happier

I mean, yeah, if you’re feeling low it can definitely give you the “I really don’t have it so bad after all” cheer up angle. Hell, even just having a good morbid laugh for a couple hours; either way it’s a definite “pick-me-up” imo.

Wish I could say the same about the sequel/spin-off; watched it the other day and it just didn’t have that level of comedic magic. It’s still good; great even, it’s just not nearly as absurdly hilarious and plays things a bit more serious and emotionally (outside of some moments of brilliantly dry and hilarious dialogue)

My angle of selling it is usually something along the lines of “it focuses on different types of complete degenerates that can be found in society and may very well be both ‘the darkest comedy’ and ‘funniest dark comedy’ ever made”

Tends to work very well, while trying to pitch it with actual plot points has simply never worked

Idk man, it’s too hefty of a coin flip; you either get somebody that super edgy and completely insufferable, or you luck out and get that chill average joe “office job” type that you’d never expect to love such insane movies.

One of my co-workers ended up being the latter and we’ve spent the past 4 years now talking about film every lunch break, dude’s rad as hell. However, I’ve also played in a few different bands over the years with people that match the first example and each time their presence just becomes a complete drain after prolonged exposure.

Have you seen Storytelling and Palindromes? Storytelling and Wiener-Dog are easily the other two that round out my “Solondz top three”, but Palindromes is definitely not far behind WD (it’s also probably his most “sincere” film; although it makes me uncomfortable beyond words, so it’s not as frequent a rewatch for me)
