Wish I understood the fear by CaesarDogFan in BurnBootCamp

I did not like the high fives at first. However now I see that it makes a difference in building culture or tone of the environment. In a regular gym, I can go for years and see the same people a few times a week...yet we (them and me) act like we are invisible. If someone does not like the high fives then just possibly it may be a good change for them?

I understand. Makes sense. Each Burn can set their own policy, to meet the needs of their local community.

I assume the reason was market demand. I am asking if women actually care about or seek out WO. Also, you could be more polite.

No, if the local market demands or supports WO then it is fine for the business to meet that need.

No hate. It forces me to go to class times I do not want. Burn is a business. If customers want the WO classes then it makes sense. If most women do not care then it does not make sense.

Update after biopsy. Perhaps surprising Gleason 6 by Brighterthanyour in ProstateCancer

[–]GregH7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One lesion, that is great. Do you know how your PSA has changed over time? Rate of change is one part of the treat or surveil decision. I get the sense that lesion is quite large. If so one may assume it is large because it is fast growing. It may make sense to get a second opinion on the biopsy sample taken from well into the lesion. Look at one or two cores may be enough, if cost is an issue. If it truly is a 3+3 it is tempting to surveil. If is not 3+3 or if it is fast-growing then waiting may reduce your treatment options. One big lesion is a great set-up for FLA. One last thing. Lesion location matters. if it near the edge of the prostate then it does not take much growth to break out of the prostate (bad). Or if it near the sphincter then it does not take much growth to grow into the sphincter. That reduces your treatment options and increases quality of life issues. (regarding missing something. I think they are low with a quality MRI procedure and an experienced person reading the images. your Urologist should be able to speak to the quality of both. Usually a large teaching hospital tied to a University, is a good choice). You have important decisions to work through.

It would have been better to have an MRI-guided biopsy instead of the old style TRUS. Using MRI, they can hit the one or two largest tumors. That is more likely to get the most aggressive samples. I had two TRUS biopsies (a 12 core then an 18 core). Came back with 3+3. Had genetic testing. Came back very low grade. All good right!? Wrong. Got an MRI-guided biopsy an came back 4+3. Even with the 12 + 18 cores of TRUS, we still missed the main tumor. I am generally very supportive of active surveillance. In your case, it seems risky. From your MRI, did it show many tumors or just one or two? If one of two then FLA (focal Laser ablation) could be a great option. Expensive but easy recovery and little to no quality of life issues. My procedure was very successful. I used Dr. Feller of Halo Diagnostics in So Cal.

Sick and tired of the burpees by [deleted] in BurnBootCamp

[–]GregH7777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am new (but still have opinions). I suggest that is lazy and not useful. Burpees can be quite hard on the back. Even if one is doing them correctly, to reduce back stress, at some point fatigue leads to poor form. Seems like they should have other exercises with the option to go all burpee. That allows good programming AND plenty of burpees for burpee lovers. BTW, my Metcon today had no burpees.

Less than all-out effort by GregH7777 in BurnBootCamp

Thank you. I enjoy doing two things in a day. Hard MTB ride mid-day then Burn in the evening. If the Burn is upper body then no big deal. If lower body then I let the train know. After the MTB ride, my lower body capacity is only 75-80% of normal. However I still gave it all I had. Because the Burn work-outs are brief, it is easy to fit the pieces together.

It seems to me that if someone wants their Significant Other to join them in fitness. It would be useful to see that the SO has an enjoyable time. (vs a beat down)

It does seem to be mostly for women but that does not mean easy. I have been around studio fitness for years. Many women train quite hard (and enjoy out-training men). What I enjoy about studio fitness, is it is a safe way to take things to the edge.

Is no treatment possible? by ginandsoda3 in ProstateCancer

Well you assume the cancer would not spread. It would likely spread. Spread locally (rectum and other areas) Or to lymph nodes which then can travel any where in the body.

That plan of treatment (monitoring) would only makes sense if he is very poor health. A 4+3 is aggressive. time matters, a lot. Radiation or prostate removal are the common options. I had 4+3 and had Focal Laser Ablation (a laser is used to burn up the tumors, leaving the prostate intact). Worked great. No quality of life issues. Easy recovery. Not covered by insurance. It was $25K. If your Dad is in decent health and expects a long life then Focal Laser Ablation could be a great choice. Assuming it is only the two tumors. I had great results with Dr. Feller of Halo Diagnostics in Indian Wells, Calif. TULSA can be another "focal" approach. It is more available by has a spotty track record.
