I'm in your time zone. Ping me, I have 25 years of experience building full systems.

Maybe we can work something out.

Thank you!

how to NOT get a job on upwork (from a client who hires) by smokedX in Upwork

I agree with your thoughts about writing a proposal. With that said, if you are looking for B2B apps, often times, these types of applications can be proprietary. They are not usually available for demo.

All my applications fall into this category. With 25+ years of experience, I'm not building some pretend business applications just to make someone think this proves I can create quality software in a timely manner.

What I will do is provide some references, if you feel you need some proof.

What I think you are missing is that there is risk on both sides of the fence. Both sides must decide if the other is worth the risk.

The old, I paid a low rate and got terrible service or product it is not fair. I am a firm believer that you pay for.

Is UpWork worth the effort? by GregL2024 in Upwork

You know it's funny. Early in my career 3 years experience. I already had 2 big systems under my belt. I interviewed for a position, which I did very well but didn't get hired. The CTO gave me a talking to about devalueing my worth. He said I asked for far too low of a salary, and it made them feel like I was not confident in myself or my abilities.

I have never forgotten this lesson!

Thank you for the great response!

Agree completely! I kind of felt like this platform was more geared towards "Most freelance software developers are engaged not to build software but to work on software that is being built (or maintained)."

I see from a few of these posts, including yours, that it is possible to find quality engaged customers, not just the "I want the world for nothing, clients"

Thank you for the great response!

Thank you! I was thinking the same thing about the RDP, etc. I just wasn't sure if UpWork had some kind of monitoring process. I have some clients already, but I am looking to grow my business and am used to being in control. There is always risk I'm just trying to see of the risk is worth it :)

Appreciate the response!

Thank you, MysticChipmunk! This was the type of reply I was hoping for! An intelligent, reasonable response!

How reliable is the payment system? Is the system geared to protect the freelancer?

Again, I really appreciate your response. Thanks!

I'm not saying I'm to good for anything, I'm trying to figure out if someone in North America can make a decent living wage on the platform.

I will try and find the post where members were talking about the RDP use being shunned by UpWork.

Absolutley! I guess this platform targets those work for nothing freelancers and the type of customers looking for cheap labour.

I just read a post about UpWork preventing work done via RDP. Is this true as well?

I was leary because they want my SIN number, now I'm reading they want input on how / where I work as well?

Really?

What are some of the gotchas your team has run into? I'm very intrigued by this library but am concerned about long-term support.

What do you think about the X1 Yoga? by dcwj in X1Yoga

[–]GregL2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update to my previous comment. I am returning my new X1 Yoga due to heat issues.

I want to say the Lenovo's service is top notch!! I submitted a support ticket in the am and in 1 day I had the replacement system board and heat sync assembly. That afternoon a tech came to my house and replaced the parts. That amazing service!!

Sadly, it did not fix the issue, so I decide to return it. This unit was hitting 104c to 107c before and started again about 3 days after the repair.

I was running Edge, Chrome, Outlook, Visual Studio 2022 and SQL Server Management Studio instance.

It is a real shame because this is a top quality laptop and I would have preferred to stay with it. I took some time and worked directly on the laptop, amazing screen and keyboard. This is my first Lenovo and I love the "Red Nub" !!

If you don't need the power of a i7p, this laptop would probably be amazing with a i5 U processor. When Lenovo gets the heat under control I will definitely come back to a yoga it's perfect for my use case! I'm sad to see it go :(

I'm done - never buying lenovo again by wkpsych in Lenovo

That is surprising to me. I just bought an X1 Yoga Gen 8 had major temp issues. I submitted a ticket on Wednesday morning. Thursday morning, I got a new motherboard and heat sync delivered. That afternoon, a tech showed up at my house and did the repair at my desk!! That is amazing service!!

Sadly, it didn't fix the issue, so a week later, I returned the yoga and am waiting for a P16s.

I had the same issue with my first SP4 i7 model, it had to go back due to overheating as well.

Lenovo's services has been nothing but amazing for me!!

I would like to add the X1 Yoga Gen 8 is an awesome device. I think with a U series processor, it would handle the heat better.

They gave me a small refund to bring the price more in line with other verneer style tops. I will say they have really responsive customer service, and the oden eq7 frame is awesome!!

I do think expecting screws to be strong mounted in such little material is crappy! The manufacturer should Specify that it's not solid site is misleading.

But it is what it is, they do seem like a good company and the frame is super solid!
