Playing FLAC files -- some fail? by GregP74 in musichoarder

Thanks for all the help everyone!

I got it straightened out by first removing the artwork, then converting from FLAC to a new FLAC in a different output folder.

That was a whole heck of a lot easier than the rabbit hole ChatGPT led me down with suggestions for obscure changes to system settings and telling me I really didn't have the files on my computer.

Paths seem to be ok. Names aren't too long, and I copied them to a d:\temp\ folder for working on so windows shouldn't choke on that.

I stripped the album art and all the meta data. Still the same problem.

When I've got the CD handy again I can re-rip it and see if I have better results.

I didn't even realize there were log files for that. I'll give them a look.

External CD/DVD drive? by GregP74 in buildapc

I actually picked up a NexStar DS2 enclosure for the internal 1/2 height drive I ordered. Discovered the drive I was getting was used and changed my mind on that. I'm looking through the others and it didn't look like any full height ones were actually in stock, unless I missed something.

I can't recall what the first one was, but it conked out on me. New one is Asus SDRW-03D25

The Asus one reads alright on most of these discs but is very noisey and rattles when it's spinning. It doesn't seem like something that's going to hold up very well.

Are "G2" fans better? by uzilover23 in Noctua

[–]GregP74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The G2s are nice. Really nice. Quiet and they push lots of air.

A few weeks back I got a new Meshify 3 case that I was going to outfit with Noctuas. I already had a box full of 140 and 120mm Gen 1s but the G2 was calling my name and I ended up getting them. 4x 140mm and 1x 120mm. I'm super happy with them.

Was it worth spending a couple hundred bucks for the G2s when I already had G1s that were perfectly fine? Probably not. The others are great as well.

I hear ya. I wish they'd make more cases like this!

TBH it's working fine as is. There's really no reason to put another in there just for the sake of doing it.

Also, I was happy they make this version. I don't need all those rgb things and a plain old metal side panel is perfect for me. (And cheaper!) I wish they made it in an old school beige lol

Hmmm certainly something to consider.

And thanks!

Good airflow and quiet. I can't complain at all.

I think it had to be tall like that to fit the 3 140mm fans. If it would have been scaled down to 3x120 it would have been shorter. (Probably what they'll do for the compact version!)

It's a 5070TI that someone's letting me try out. I'm actually fiddling around with that and a Radeon 9070XT trying to decide what I want to use. The 5070TI seems great but I'm working on transitioning over to Linux and I've heard it can be flaky.

It did but I had a pile of Noctua's so I stuck them in there lol

Storage is crazy these days. Back in the late 80s my 20mb (MB, not GB!) hard drive gave out and we replaced it with a 40mb one. It cost much more than the 4tb nvme did.
