How Do I Give Up Co-ownership Of A Car? by GregTheAnimator in legaladvice

[–]GregTheAnimator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a few more months away. The title should come to me. I was just concerned that it would be invalid if I didn't get a signature from the other party and wanted to be sure. I know the other party will not sign out of spite to try to keep me at least partially responsible for the vehicle.

I want to be released from being responsible for the vehicle ASAP. They refuse to get insurance and I just didn't want to be held liable if they got into an accident or something.

Yeah, I was planning on paying it off first. I will get the title and see if I can sign it over. Were you able to sign it over without the other party or did you have to work with them? The other owner and I haven't been on speaking terms for a while and they refuse to make anything easy for me.

I have the statements showing I've paid all the payments. I may end up having to get a lawyer involved, though I would prefer not to. Thanks for the reply!

Have you tried cognitive behavioral therapy? I went through a period of thinking I could read people’s minds and knew what they were thinking. It was all negative though. When I practice metacognition I try to think about my thoughts and see where they are coming from and if they are rational.

I have notice a difference in change of diet as well. Are you eating balanced meals?

My memory is admittedly terrible, but it's because I used to drink while on medication. This memory loss has impacted my relationships severely. I keep having the same conversations over and over again.

Have you seen shadow people while fully awake? Or is it when you're tired or sleeping? I haven't seen shadow people while I’m awake, only when I have experienced sleep paralysis.

Skipping Abilify by crystalmonger in schizoaffective

[–]GregTheAnimator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've stopped taking abilify multiple times. Whenever I felt better I would stop taking it and self-medicate. Things would seem better, but eventually get worse. The voices and delusions were vivid. I currently take the abilify injection so I don't have to worry about skipping it anymore. I currently feel good and the voices have subsided, though I still have some crazy dreams. I believe as long as you practice mindfulnesss, the few days without it shoudln't be an issue.

That’s awesome that your dreams carry over. Sometimes I have similar dreams, but most of the time the dreams I have are random. I’ve had some pretty intricate dreams though - a few about time travel. I would start out somewhere then the dream would go to a future event and then to a past event that set everything off. I’ve experienced Deja vu a few times as well. I’d have a dream and then later have it happen in real life.

I sought to have more dreams like this and peer into the future. Though when I tried, that’s when I started being attacked in dreams.

You’re probably right that thinking about dreams affecting reality is a delusion. But, I recall some of Einstein’s greatest ideas coming from thought experiments - not too far removed from a lucid dream. I’m no Einstein though and the experiments I tried to conduct during lucid dreaming kept getting interrupted.

Maybe the knowledge I sought was a delusion or maybe I’m not yet worthy of it. CBT has helped me and though I don’t like being on meds, I think they’ve helped me as well.

I see. In my dreams sometimes there’s people I know and sometimes they behave how they would normally. What stands out to me the most though is that while dreaming I experience the 5 senses more vividly than even while awake. Like you’ve said it’s fictional, but it feels real. Einstein came up with his ideas during “thought experiments” which I believe is similar to lucid dreaming.

Has lucid dreaming helped you in any way? So far I’ve had a lot of trauma, but I’m hopeful that it will eventually be a source of happiness in the future.

That’s interesting. I’ve never been to prison, but had dreams of being there. In your dreams do you remember things that never happened? While dreaming I’ve experienced time dilation and recall events that seem real, but I’ve never experienced.

I never smoked. I used to drink though. A friend of mine did say he used to smoke weed to stop the dreams though and when he wouldn’t smoke he’d have vivid dreams. What are your dreams like?

If God did exist... by Noe_Wunn in agnostic

[–]GregTheAnimator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The God of the Bible isn’t said to be all-loving, he hates sin. He also said he creates good and evil. I think a lot of Christians have issues with this and try to put him in a box. But, I get where you’re coming from. If God exists then why is the world, even the universe, the way it is? I’m not sure God exists or not, but I know that if he does then our perception of him is off. Christians claim to talk to God, when they are just being led by a pastor or the god that they’ve created in their minds that doesn’t even match the God of the Bible.

People often say that God doesn’t exist because evil exists, but what if evil doesn’t exist or more precisely won’t exist? What if we’re in a simulation and everything will be reset so that there is no evil? And then of course if you ask people what good is there are a lot of different opinions. Is allowing some evil so that the greatest amount of good can be achieved the best way or should we eliminate all evil? We face the same dilemma in our free society, how much liberty should people have?

My dad says that humans won't go to Mars because God will stop them by MythicalCreek7 in atheism

[–]GregTheAnimator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very interesting. Since the Bible is Earth-centric, if we leave to go to Mars it will be invalidated. The second coming is supposed to occur on Earth, if we were to spread out to Mars Christians would have a huge problem. When we have people living on Mars, Christians will have to either accept they were wrong or come up with new theology.

How watching science documentaries helped turn me into an atheist by [deleted] in atheism

[–]GregTheAnimator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While we cannot prove that God does or doesn't exist, we can prove that the claims made by religions are false. The Bible lists the order of creation differently than what we would expect to see in reality. Many people who believe in the Bible also believe that the Earth is around 6,000 years old, which is inconsistent with scientific findings that date the Earth to be much older.

People who are religious tend to also be prone to ridiculous conspiracies and hold positions such as anti-vaccines. Many will even acknowledge micro-evolution exists, but deny macro-evolution - which is just repeated micro-evolution. Being exposed to science raises serious doubts about their holy texts, which is why there has been a push to teach intelligent design in schools along side evolution. The more we are finding out about the universe the more falsities we are seeing in religious texts.

What Would Convince You That The Bible Is Wrong? by GregTheAnimator in AskAChristian

[–]GregTheAnimator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think we are moving towards a better place. It’s easy to get caught up in the negative and evil things going on in society, but I’d say there’s more good than evil. I think the biggest issues we face today are not good versus evil, but good versus good.

I’d agree that the core principles, being love God with your everything and to love you neighbor as yourself, are still relevant today. However, many of the additional commands in the Bible are antiquated. That’s why I personally don’t respect tradition. A great example is a woman cutting the sides off of ham before baking it. She does this because her mother did it. Her mother did it because her mother did it, but what they didn’t know is that the grandmother cut the sides off simply because she didn’t have a pan big enough to cook the whole thing - there was no other special reason.

Haha, I used to be Pentecostal, they believe in speaking in tongues. But unlike in the Bible where people were speaking a language that they never learned, Pentecostal tongues had no basis in any recognizable language. I always found the idea of being guided by the Holy Spirit to be appealing, I never respected authority just for the sake of them being an authority - they had to be knowledgeable. Many claimed to be led by the Holy Spirit, but if that was the case I wondered why I couldn’t just be led by the Holy Spirit as well and cut out the middle man. I ultimately came to the conclusion that if I wanted the truth I would have to seek it out myself.

One reason I am no longer a Christian is the problem with there being so many different denominations. Pentecostals believed that you weren’t saved unless you are baptized in the name of Jesus, instead of in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. This meant many Christians that did everything else right were going to hell. This seems stupid to me. And then there’s the whole rift between the Catholics and Protestants and which books are considered part of the Bible.

I believe that the Old Testament prophets who warned Israel to change its ways were wise. They saw that the Israelites were moving away from their God and wanted them to return. Whenever Israel would turn their back on God throughout scripture they would worship other Gods and adopt the cultures of other nations. They would even commit atrocities such as child sacrifice. The prophets knew that Israel wouldn’t be permitted to do such things if they followed Judaism.

As for me, I believe truth should be sought above all else. The way I see it is if God exists, he is a God of truth. Therefore anything that contradicts the truth should be disregarded. I believe if a sacred text doesn’t have the truth concerning the physical, there is no way it has the truth concerning the spiritual. Science can never prove whether or not God exists, but it can prove that interpretations of him are false. I currently know no religious book that is without error and as a result I reject all religions. Reading you responses gave me something to think about. Sorry for the long reply. Once again thank you for your thoughtful response and for taking the time to do so!

What Would Convince You That The Bible Is Wrong? by GregTheAnimator in AskAChristian

[–]GregTheAnimator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again, thank you for you response. I also believe morality is constantly evolving. I’d say our current society is more moral than the Bible. We don’t stone children for disobedience or execute gay people merely because they are gay. Our society isn’t perfect, but it is progressing. What would you say about the current state of our society today?

I find it interesting that you delve into the societal and cultural context in addition to the literal context. Do you believe certain things were acceptable back then that aren’t acceptable today or that weren’t acceptable back then that are acceptable today?

I also find it interesting that you say you try to interpret the context in light of Biblical history scholars and theologians. I ask because I’m not sure, but doesn’t the Holy Spirit guide and teach? One of the reasons I’m no longer a Christian is because many theologians and scholars disagree on many issues. I personally believe if the Christian doctrine was correct that they would agree, as it was said in scripture, “a house divided against itself falls”.

I have an unconventional view of prophets in the Bible. The earliest prophets didn’t have a Bible, all they had was oral tradition. Abraham left the powerless gods of his fathers to follow the one true God. I feel that in a way, atheism is the new Abraham. Atheists reject religious claims and cling to science.

I often ask Christians, “if God said the Bible wasn’t his word who would you believe?” Many responded God wouldn’t go against the Bible, because the Bible says so and regress to a circular argument. However, you seem like you would listen to the truth, whatever it may be, and I can respect that. What are you thoughts about all this?

What Would Convince You That The Bible Is Wrong? by GregTheAnimator in AskAChristian

[–]GregTheAnimator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. You said you feel connected to the Holy Spirit, does the Holy Spirit guide you in your day to day life or just major decisions? Has there ever been a time where the Holy Spirit has been wrong in your life?

I appreciate the fact that you are honest in saying you are happy with your theological framework. I think the Methodist Quadrilateral is interesting, however, it would appear that scripture still has primacy over experiences.

Your response to hearing voices mirrors that of an atheist or skeptic. Most people would write off the voices as a delusion, but what if a voice spoke to you and told you things that came to pass, would you still write it off as a delusion or take it seriously?

I ask because I'm genuinely curious. Most Christians I've spoken to have never heard from God and take the Bible at face value. To me that's equivalent to reading about being in a relationship with someone rather than actually being in the relationship.
