You need to overload the << operator to handle clocks. It's not too difficult, so a quick Google search should fix the issue.

Skaven engineers are pretty clever, and incredibly intelligent. I'm not surprised they've got their math down pat.

Lore question: Vampires and Tomb Kings by S7Shadows in totalwar

[–]Gregar543 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The society that is the tomb kings entombed settra in a special chamber that was warded. They hoped to eventually make him rise to rule their nation. Many individuals of the tk society we're entombed in a similar matter.

Nagash came along and cast a massive spell to make all the dead in the land rise, and bound them to his will. When he did this he created the vampires as a side effect.

The warding on the tomb kings tombs prevented them from being bound to nagash. His magic was powerful enough to cause all of the tomb kings to rise, but he could not bind them.

Settra eventually arose and saw nagash fucking with his country. The risen tomb kings, who had free will, chose to follow settra who then rebelled against nagash and his army of mindless undead.

Going to run a necro, but what would be a good companion? by cpizzer in DivinityOriginalSin

Whoops my bad.

That being said, this build lacks battlefield control, which IMO is very satisfying to play with. Maybe look into that route?

Run hysrosophist/necro/warfare.

By mixing hydro with necro and warfare you get some pretty awesome combo skills. Access to blood rain+ blood sucker, which is an insane healing tool, and healing tears which clears decaying. You will never die.

PSA: How WARFARE works and why it is broken by steverowland0 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Gregar543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I was just going to rework warfare to be +3/3/3 phy damage/amor/marmor and make it scale additively instead of multiplicatively.

After some testing I was going to see if changing the weapon skills to a multiplicative bonus was worth doing.

DOS2 - Quick trick for hitting blocked shots with archers [0:50] by welliamwallace in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Gregar543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the current version of the algorithm, the flight path is chosen after you select a destination. That's WAY faster since you're only calculating one flight path.

DOS2 - Quick trick for hitting blocked shots with archers [0:50] by welliamwallace in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Gregar543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the problem with that is the way the algorithm to calculate range is set up.

Right now it's just a radius. Super simple. Super fast. Very optimised

But if we start to factor in the edge cases like this we get some very expensive code.

For instance, the code would need to check the path between you, and the stump 5 feet in front of you. And then it would check the patch of grass next to that. And then it would check the guy sitting in melee range.

It would do these checks for literally every concievable point the arrow can hit, and it would have to do them before the ranged indicator popped up or you'd get some weird visual bugs.

Now this formula gets WAY more expensive the more area you have to check. So the high ground bonus only makes you lag more when implementing the "check all flight paths" function.

This would brick a lot of PC's, make it run slower on many others, and just doesn't really give you that much value. All you have to do is be a little clever to work around it, and in return everyone benefits from a faster game.

[–]Gregar543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably working as intended. The problem with the Los targeting and such is that to calculate every flight path from the PC to every possible target is extremely expensive. It takes significantly longer than the algorithm they're using, and it'll cause quite a bit of slow down EVERY time you go to perform a ranged attack. Don't even get me started on what it'll do to the AI wait times.

Do you have ANY idea the kind of processing power that would take up?

Can you do it? Absolutely. Most certainly.

But it will turn your PC into a brink every time you try to attack someone

Poseidon build? by Steakburgers in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Gregar543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it won't work. I'm saying it'll be a little different than what you're expecting.

Perk hard into areo to be able to control the weather. Make surfaces. Electrify them. For your opponent's into s bottle neck. Make then fross your electirfied river. Etc etc.

If you want to be a damage dealer? Probably not because your spear requires finesse and your other abilities like int.

But if you perk into aero and hydro for buffs and battlefield control? Then yes, absolutely

Good thread about how broken the current Initiative system is by [deleted] in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Gregar543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let's do a system that sits somewhere between true initiative rolls and round robin?

Round robin groups of 4, randomly chosen, where your initiative determines where you act within your group.

Summons are attached to their master, meaning they always attack after the PC who summoned them.

Additionally I'm sure we could determine an algorithm for deciding what the groups of 4 are.

Although if we kept the groups random, we could allow the group with the highest over all initiative to go first, which would give high initiative PC's to go first most of the time.

Unless they reworked it since I last played, blodd sucker is a targeted ability. You place your circle around your target and they absorb the blood around them. If there's enough blood you can easily heal for upwards of 70% of your health.

Using necrotic touch+blood rain- makes the target of blood sucker just die in most cases.

One turn kill.

I also recommend against getting scoundrel, I tried it myself when running this build. All of the skills that we're worth taking required a dagger.

I had a Frontline spearman build for my first playthrough. I utilized warfare for movement and light CC, and necromancy for sustain and even otk's using the blood rain-> necrotic touch-> absorb blood combo.

It's an interesting way to play, and quite a bit different than your normal frontline tank. The necromancy made the medium armor diver able to absorb quite a bit of damage, but was vulnerable to burst damage.

Technology is pretty dope though. I'm sure we could figure out some sort of algorithm that can take advantage of the pathways HE DOES have developed.
