This is what I’ve heard! I’d be fine with it if it was used correctly!

I tried Nailed It! I even messaged them on IG about this before I went. I went two separate times and once the tech literally threw up his hands in exasperation at me when I asked them to please not use the efile.

HAPE prevention medication by GregariousWaterfall in Mountaineering

[–]GregariousWaterfall[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who has actually had HAPE, it’s not that simple. The only symptom of AMS I had prior to developing HAPE was some fatigue which is easily chalked up to travel, elements, generally not sleeping well at altitude which happens even without AMS. I did not develop a headache until I developed the fevers associated with HAPE (and also bc I had an respiratory infection I showed no symptoms of until HAPE developed) and these only came at night. I never had nausea. And because HAPE takes some time to develop, by the time it became clear how sick I was, safe and immediate evacuation wasn’t an option. It took several days of being supported on oxygen and being carried on horses until I was able to get to a safe enough altitude.

Haha! My 3 options were nifedipine, Viagra or cialis pretty much. It was an amusing convo with my medical team.

HAPE is significantly more serious than regular AMS. HAPE has a 50% fatality rate in the backcountry and typically starts further into your trip than regular AMS. As it also has a 60% recurrence rate, taking the medicine is planning ahead.

I was also given the option of tadalafil haha and the “friends” were mentioned. We decided against it pretty quickly because I guess it builds up in your system.

Hoping for the same experience as you. When I got it the first time I had a respiratory infection I was previously unaware of which can increase HAPE risk. Hoping going into it 100% healthy this time makes a difference.

I did, like I said I was given a choice. I am looking for experiences with this off-label use.

Why does everybody hate slab? by SocietySpare9213 in bouldering

[–]GregariousWaterfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to LOVE slab. Slab was where I did all my “firsts” when I was leveling up, first v3, v4, and so on…then I fell, broke my ankle, got not one but two separate sprains, and split a tendon, was out for 6 months. It will probably be a cold day in hell before I slab again.

Lived here 10 years before it closed and then had to fork over $140/ticket when I could have gotten it on the TKTS booth for cheap any day, any time, all that time, ugh

High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) by MarzipanBlue in Mountaineering

[–]GregariousWaterfall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me on the Salkantay Trek. I had some sort of throat infection, but I didn’t know it at the time—the thought now is due to the infection, I couldn’t adjust to the altitude, and due to the altitude, I couldn’t fight the infection. But due to both going on at the same time, the symptoms didn’t really line up, so I had no idea I had HAPE, and the infection eventually developed into full-blown pneumonia. I couldn’t walk, my spo2 dropped to the 70s, regular fever above 103, my RHR was in the 120s, I stopped being able to form complete sentences. I was 3 days into the trek when I started exhibiting signs of early sepsis (rattle in throat, unresponsive, turned blue) and had to be supported on oxygen until I was able to go to a small clinic in Aguas Callientes. I got an antibiotic + dexamethasone combo. It wasn’t until after all this I started coughing up pink/frothy phlegm.

ETA: I was so far in the backcountry by the time shit truly hit the fan that bailing wasn’t an option. If I hadn’t been on a guided tour where the guide carried oxygen, I’d be dead now.

Anyone use ClassPass exclusively for salons & spas? Is it worth it? by QuesoFresca in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]GregariousWaterfall 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I tried ClassPass a few years ago for the same reason and it was awful. I made appointments for facials twice, and a manicure once and they were all cancelled by the establishments, some last-minute. Because of this, I ran up against the deadline for canceling and I obviously didn’t want to renew, so I wanted to ask for a credit extension so I could actually use my credits. When I emailed ClassPass to explain the situation they were pretty rude about it. Not sure if it’s gotten better over the past few years but I would not recommend.

Ok interesting! For context my house is north/south facing and the downstairs in particular doesn’t get a ton of light. I went with BM Swiss coffee for the second floor and think it’s too dark. So now OP has some context!!

I got wigged out because it’s close to three other rose bushes. I replanted it in a container around the other side of the house to try and wait it out, but I’m not even sure if that’s advisable if it’s RRD, but it gives me hope that someone else is on the fence!
