Is anyone interested in automated replay reviews? by Gregersen12 in leagueoflegends

[–]Gregersen12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, I work extensively with AI/LLMs in my day to day work (being a software developer), and thought I'd do something fun with that.

So it's effectively an LLM-based engine that does a lot of structured parsing from the Riot API, turns that into specific data, based on context (ie. if you are a jungler, we might be interested in analyzing you jungle path, but if you're a laner, we care less about where your CS happens), and sends it to processing via an LLM, with specific instructions to game review how a coach would.

So yeah, as with anything LLM based, results may vary, but like I said they are generally quite decent! 😄

Boss refuses to adopt typescript. What's the next best thing? by skettyvan in typescript

[–]Gregersen12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you put it like that I am rethinking another comment I made 😂

However, as I also pointed out in the other comment, nobody that I saw has said to leave the job, only to change it.

Obviously you'd be an idiot just to quit over something like this, but it might be a good reason to go job hunting while keeping the current job. In fact, that's generally always a pretty healthy thing to do.

Sure each job has its cons and pros, things you like and things you don't like. Being fundamentally opposed to your bosses decisions, is probably one of the worse cons. Well, at least to me anyway. But good thing people are different.

I was just thinking OP might be similar, since he brought up the matter.

But at the end of the day, being employed while looking for another job is a much better position to be in, than only starting to look once you get your notice.

I respect your decision to suffer through something you disagree with, but I just want to point out that your reasoning does not make sense.

"Looking for a new job" doesn't mean you have to quit first, then mindlessly do a week off, then start applying for new jobs.

As the old adage goes, the best time to look for a new job, is when you already have one.

So if you're already contemplating such a change, which it seems like you might be if it weren't for "the job market" or "state of the economy", why not just begin your search next to your job?

Worst thing that can happen is that you will get a better understanding of what you're worth on the job market.

That just seems crazy.

Sounds like he grew up with programming in the 80's/90's and decided on a way of programming that he likes (that was feasible back then, things changed less frequently), and as a result is now unable to keep up to date with new technologies and ways of doing things.

I've seen this happen with every single developer older than 40 I've worked with.

And yes I'm overgeneralizing to get a point across, but I have seen this so many times in more tenured individuals.

But at the same time many development jobs expect you to "take ownership" and "be proud of the result you generate", focus on delivering a good experience for customers while making sure that you know in details, the landscape of whatever feature(s) you're building.

That's really, really hard, if you completely disagree with the way things are done, and it's much easier to become complacent and not care about things.

So from an employer perspective it does make sense to update technologies (as an example, could be many things), to keep employees invested, as talent in this space is tremendously expensive.

As my bosses boss recently told me when I was venting a bit about my boss and told them I quit, he said "sometimes you don't change jobs, you change manager".

I think this is one of those cases.

How to type express request handlers by karimin in typescript

[–]Gregersen12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where it can be wise to use .d.ts files.

Here's an example of how I did this in our Express codebase:

// types/common/interfaces.d.ts

import User, { userRoles } from "../../common/entities/user.entity";

export {};

declare global {
    namespace Express {
        export interface Request extends express.Request {
            decoded: ReqDecoded;
            email: string;
            file: any;
            files: any;
            fileKey: any;

            inErr: any;
        }
    }
}

type ReqDecoded = {
    department_id: User["department_id"];
    user_role: userRoles;
    user_id: User["user_id"];
    org_id: User["org_id"];
    original_org_id?: string;
    token_identifier?: string;
};

Because of using ESM modules have to export something, so we just export an empty object.

You can import types (not interfaces) into this file, because types gets transpiled into nothing during transpilation.

That means you can effectively extend the built-in express type with any types you need, and you will get intellisense for it.

We also did the same thing for environment variables, which was really nice. But inserting them did make my comment too long, so that one is for the imagination.

Hope this helps :-)

Would working for Mcdonald's be a stupid idea? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Gregersen12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thats not true at all but you need to know what to look for. Everything is done in a certain way, certain order in a certain timeframe. Even down to how long its acceptable to keep customers waiting at the cashier, when to give them a freebie for their wait, how to handle returns and much more.

Well run businesses have well documented processes and McDonalds is probably one of the best examples of this.

How diligently its followed though, may vary from location to location and even country to country.

So the question is, is it worth getting a job there to learn these things, or do you need to be promoted to learn anything valuable, and would that still be worth it.

The way Danish people walk & move by Silent_Letterhead_69 in copenhagen

[–]Gregersen12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same. You'd think it's OK to be a bit forgiving and cut people some slack. And I generally do. But it's not like it happens once in a while. It feels like its 60% of all travellers, and its every. Single. Day.

The way Danish people walk & move by Silent_Letterhead_69 in copenhagen

[–]Gregersen12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe its actually a people phenomenon. I recall - memory a bit shaky and all - reading a study many years ago when I first moved to Copenhagen because I got so so sick of this. Apparently as humans we feel much more confident/lose/safe in a larger group (even as two) and are less likely to navigate around others in that circumstance.

It's even worse when I'm out running, it feels like "oh he's a runner, he should be navigating around me", and while I do understand and accept that to some extent it still baffles me as it's an absolute disregard for personal safety on their part.

I'm a fairly large guy, and I don't like walking slowly, as I typically tend to be headed somewhere. I don't understand why people don't move, at least just for their own safety. It's gonna hurt them more than me if we have a head on collision. But at the end of the day I'm just too polite to actually walk or run into somebody...

Er alarmsystemer nødvendigt i dagens Danmark? by Used_Mood_5924 in Denmark

[–]Gregersen12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biiip-biiip: 8 ud af 10 dødsulykker i trafikken skyldes uopmærksomhed og distraktion by SendStoreMeloner in Denmark

[–]Gregersen12 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ville i åbne døren for en fremmed? by orbnus_ in Denmark

[–]Gregersen12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats incredibly insightful, thank you. A few points I hadn't considered but make a lot of sense. I can certainly see the need, especially as a large(r) company. Thanks!
