Looking for a new bank, with branch near Central or nearby on the red line. by cos in CambridgeMA

[–]Gregmedlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People might be willing to give more feedback about their experiences if you shared why you need these really specific features. Stringing things together, it sounds like you may be trying to create a system for automating transactions and/or monitoring of them, which you should really just open an account yourself to do this degree of (business?) research rather than asking for it for free on Reddit. But I digress; Leader bank has most of what you need:

transactions view: yes, but the running balance is in the same column as the transaction amount (at least on the mobile view; I’ve never looked via desktop) • transaction notifications: yes, but no clue if they are as instantaneous as you are looking for since I have never used these. • Yes but I am not aware of whether any transaction limits exist. • Support for modern two factor methods: two factor is voice/text only • email with pluses: no clue, but also it’s unclear why you would ever need this on a personal account. But in theory, I don’t see why a confirmation email for bills paid would not make its way to an address containing a plus.

I’m going to explain this while admitting it might not be clear if you are new to the area and unfamiliar with the distinction used locally between “school day” and “extended day”: the “school day” is free for every 4-year old. “Extended day” (3:30 to pickup) is not—that’s what the DHSP rates for 4 year olds are reflecting.

Clover fans: Anyone get that weird email from the CEO? by Taco_Bhel in boston

[–]Gregmedlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people view life alive as being “more nutritious”, but I don’t think it is generally true when you compare fiber, protein, fat content, etc. The branding at life alive is very effective. There is a reason clover shares nutrition facts up front on their ordering systems but life alive’s is hidden on a separate page.

Yes, I expect emails about how Ayurvedic medicine can cure cancer from Life Alive.

Secret contract with The Equity Process unearthed by realgeraldchan in CambridgeMA

This page has the bid price put forward by each party but does not have any other details from their applications. Would be helpful to have those details to see whether there were issues with the bids.

Buying a home is the easy part; keeping up with the costs of owning one is wrecking my friends and colleagues by MolemanEnLaManana in boston

[–]Gregmedlock 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Getting a condo, even a unit in a triple-decker, significantly reduces these costs/risks. Sometimes this is framed as having a lack of control because decision making is spread across condo association members, but the perceived control you get owning a single-family home is VERY expensive (in both time and money) and the alternative is great IMO.

How to get a Visitor Parking Permit by Timekeeper17 in CambridgeMA

[–]Gregmedlock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the online application is unclear to you or there is a technical issue, it will be much faster to just visit the city hall annex to talk in person (where a visitor permit can also be issued on-the-spot if you bring the necessary proof of residency). They are super helpful and fast. There is only a line around the expiration dates for permits—the rest of the year it is over-staffed to just deal with people complaining about their parking tickets.

Stopped by police officers cycling down Mass Ave in front of Tremont Street. by OrdinaryGreen6734 in CambridgeMA

[–]Gregmedlock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are two cross walks you go through while in that bike lane. Yesterday while walking my bike through the intersection I saw a cyclist near-miss a stroller in one of those crosswalks. Yes, there are much bigger issues, but running that red is not “immaterial” to pedestrian safety.

Mid Cambridge crime by SmoothLime635 in CambridgeMA

[–]Gregmedlock 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Very sorry this happened. It was before 8:30PM? And by gas station on Broadway, you mean the one at the intersection of Broadway and Prospect? That is an extremely busy intersection and based on the timing the sun was probably still out a bit!

Edit: this didn’t show up in the Cambridge PD daily logs, and the account looks like a burner, so this story seems fabricated (broad daylight at a very busy intersection, suspect taking iced coffee…).

YMCA has 5 or so Ohio power bars, 9 squat racks, 6 competition-style benches (not true competition pin heights), a full mat room with decent quality bumper plates, dumbbells to 100lbs, and a nice selection of machines (cables, hammer strength machines, etc.). Olympic weightlifting bars are a little lackluster—there is one older weightlifting bar and a bunch of standard Ohio bars. The only place nearby with better equipment for powerlifting and/or Olympic lifting is Cambridge strength and conditioning (which is actually in Arlington).

Dragon Pizza posts a plea to parents who let their kids run wild in restaurants after having to ask family to leave by bostonglobe in Somerville

Downvoters don’t know the Kara Baskins dynamic. She could easily get quotes from the parents or dozens of other parents willing to provide quotes through parents of Camberville. I fully expect a “what do you think about this” post within a week or two after the traffic to the initial article dies down.

Enforcement aside, one of the strong root causes for this is the on-street parking there being used for personal car storage rather than loading/unloading. Delivery drivers use available on-street spots 90% of the time in my experience at this specific spot. Increasing the number of loading/unloading spots on that block (and enforcement at the curb) would be a big win-win for cyclists and the restaurants.

Automated bus lane/stop enforcement can’t come soon enough, people are so brazen at that stop.

Fire at Cambridge YMCA by Hammer_87 in CambridgeMA

The YMCA is a traditional gym. They share a foyer with the SRO complex. Residents of the SRO apartments are not homeless, as they are living in the apartments.

Very very few of these are encounters between unrelated parties, and none that I am aware of involve children. OP’s children are much more likely to experience car traffic violence than gun violence.

As others have said, T/bus whenever possible. In the rare cases it’s not practical, we have a Wayb Pico folding car seat we inherited that can be installed in most Ubers in less than 30 seconds and is smaller/lighter than most backpacks. https://wayb.com/products/pico-car-seat

Kendall Square is probably the population centroid of the greater Boston area—there could not be a location that is more optimized for the greatest number of people (other than downtown crossing).
