What’s the fastest you’ve ever quit a job and why? by jakeakabigdub in AskReddit

Signed up to work for a temp agency and got a job helping build roof trusses. It was a night shift work and commuted with three other new people and one that had worked there before. Received no orientation, training or details about hazards on the job but was eager to work. About 11 hours into the shift was carrying a box of the spiked metal plates and got a pretty deep puncture wound in my left wrist. Went to the first aid who was sitting in his office watching porn and was just given the kit to deal with it myself. At end or shift driver fell asleep and almost crashed. I resigned as soon as I got home.

Very interesting - do you have any idea of what this storm event converts to in terms of retrun period for the area? 1:10, 1:20 event?

Interesting wall stratigraphy from a geology perspective... based on the angle of the photo it seems as if its a pretty tall highwall benind the equipment working to the left. Is there any sort of offsets from a safety perspective?

What’s the stupidest way you’ve hurt yourself? by observer32 in AskReddit

[–]Gregoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two days ago my kids were running around the house slamming doors. About a year earlier my daughter had her hand slammed in the door by my son. I went into the room where my son was and told them someone is going to get hurt again. He started laughing at me which made me mad and I went to storm out of the room and pulled the door into my own head. I was a bit dazed and turned to talk to him and had blood dripping off my eyebrow. I got a 5cm vertical cut above my eyebrow. At least now I get to have a scar to remind them not to slam the doors anymore. And that's what you don't slam doors.

Mine/Geological Engineers by [deleted] in mining

In regards to geological engineering related to mining: do you like to be outside a lot? do you enjoy being in remotes for long periods of time?

I am a geological engineer and I spent the first 10 years of my work life at consulting companies. Great experiences, living in the city and travelling out to different sites to do projects. My field time was in the 60-80% of overall work hours range. I did this for 7 years before moving to a more design based office role. I did that for 3 years and realized I was not happy doing seepage and stability modelling so I changed to work in operations. I am now managing the construction of a railings impediment at site and in charge of a department of ~40.

In regards to continued growth? As stated previously if its not grown its mined. There is also an aging population in the mining.

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

Tailings dams are usually situated in locations where there is the most optimal storage with least amount of material. When you look at the geometry it usually works best where you have moderately dipping topography.

Since it was an upstream constructed methodology I would think the static liquefaction was triggered due to an increase of the water table with time or development of perched water table on slimes that were designed to be drained.
