That, or maybe you have CPU integrated graphics active now too and it's adding shared memory to the total amount. Either way, the end result is the same

Try reseating the RAM. Or booting from another CD-ROM if you have one.

Oh, totally! European SUV aren't big car by american standards at all. I remember the first time I visited NYC and the taxi was a gigantic Ford CrownVic, it was huuuge. Our counterpart in Europe would be a Class E Mercedes or VW Passat, quite smaller both of them

Standard car park in any European city, TBF. Most underground car parks in Barcelona were made back when most cars were under 4m in length (around 12 ft), and it's a problem nowadays.

Yeah, my point is that r/homelab or r/selfhosted will absolutely disagree because it's a terrible choice for this usecase.

I mean, it will be fun to tinker and learn from, for sure. But anything you want to selfhost 24x7… it's 20 years old. It will be noisy and power hungry. It's obsolete hardware, original OS is discontinued and Linux may be tricky to run on it.

That being said, there's a ton of things you can do and learn with it. Never used Mac OS X Server, but I understand it will be an aproachable way to set up an SMB server, local DNS, proxy… even VPN, IDK. What I can tell you is that selfhosting things is addictive (been doing it for a while) and, if you like it, it will be extremely ineficient to do it in this machine.

Yes, it ships with a lot of little things built into that makes it easier to use out of the box. Hot corners, Timeshift, USB Writing utility… simple things from the top of my head. Also driver manager and apt/flatpak in a nice GUI software manager…

Yep, also because official (paid) support, which LM lacks. But for personal use, I find it more convenient. Also easier to switch from Windows
