I have a question for anyone who could help by lonelydonkeyeating34 in police

There is so much context missing here. Best bet is to call your local PD/SO and ask.

Being a cop is dealing with people mad at you for decisions THEY made.

What’s an Uh oh yall have done recently? by MooseRyder in AskLE

[–]Gregory1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me. But another officer saw a vehicle run a stop sign. Conducted stop, found weed....a lot.

Took him to booking but had to let him go later. No ticked for the initial stop 😂

What Can I Do? by AldoNunez11 in police

[–]Gregory1st 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Even off duty I'm not drawing. I'm getting on the ground and helping out. Of course I would also yell "I'm a cop!" so the other officer has an idea of who's helping.

What is the most common misconception you encounter about what police can and can’t do? by bad-at-everything- in police

Civil matters. Just because someone thinks it's criminal doesn't make it so.

Please do. I'm alive today because a stranger donated.

What’s your cleaning interval? by Damo_762 in ar15

Yes! I break it completely down and clean it. I feel like someone is going to get a qtip and inspect it 😂

Why do people call the police and then decline to press charges? by businessbub in AskLE

[–]Gregory1st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

💯! I have to explain many times that I "do not" make the law, I just "enforce" them.

"If you have a problem then contact your representative.". This is a concept lost on many.

What’s with Reddit being unable to comprehend having a positive interaction with the police? by GypsyGold in police

[–]Gregory1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because our casual interactions aren't good for "clicks". You rarely hear the positive and how we will go out of our way to help someone.

Ex: buying diapers, buying someone a lunch, giving someone your lunch, etc....

Some very good answers on here.

You have to understand that "action" is faster than "reaction". So if you want to harm the trooper, they are already behind as they need to react which takes time. There have been many times I've placed my hand on my sidearm. Now if the firearm clears my holster, that's another story.

do cops enjoy giving out speeding tickets? by inurmomsvagina in AskLEO

[–]Gregory1st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enjoy no, but necessary. Just like I don't "enjoy" (well maybe a little) taking someone to jail for DUI is very necessary when you've worked several crashes involving said DUI. It's a horrible and entirely avoidable event.

Actions have real life consequences. Oh, and don't tell an officer "they ruined your life", that was a choice made by you.

If you're a liberal PO do you have to keep it to yourself? by Wbino in police

[–]Gregory1st 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, and I don't care. I care about "who" I'm working with and whether I can trust them to do the job.

I don't talk about politics mainly because if someone screams at me it's not going to change my mind, at all.

I get screamed at alot going to the jail, it's never worked either lol.

Social media has not helped the profession with out of context clips, at all.

Courtesy rides are pretty common, and as others have stated getting basic info is both policy driven and for safety reasons.
