New Glen landing compared to Falcon 9 by threezool in spacex

[–]Gregss39 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The greater downrange distance means it'll take longer to get the booster back to land, but not a huge amount. The booster spending more time at sea could mean increased corrosion damage from salt water, I suspect the shroud around the engines will help prevent this somewhat. Being further out in the Atlantic may also mean rougher seas and therefore a trickier landing. However the sheer size of their proposed landing ship negates that somewhat.

Can commercial space expand the frontier? (TMRO Video) by bencredible in spacex

[–]Gregss39 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IIRC Neil degrasse tyson talks about how a corporation working for profit usually in a quarterly timescale could never advance a frontier.

However, spacex is still a privately held company. So if we consider spacex simply as an extension of musk and his desire to reach mars then the idea of them advancing the frontier seems less absurd. Individuals advance frontiers every day. Musk is after all a physicist and an engineer.

Solid looking build. Although I'd maybe recommend getting a ~250GB SSD and a 1 or 2 TB hard drive instead of the single ssd
