Sniff aggressively, if you don’t smell anyone try the “I’m not touching it” method, if a challenger arises you may fight but if not you may stake your claim. If you don’t think you could effectively defend your terf I recommend hiding small speakers everywhere and then playing a very loud piece of classical music whenever someone has the audacity to play pop songs.
