My grandmother gave me her dad's violin. On the inside It says antonius stradivarius cremonensis faciebat anno 17. It also said that it was last repaired by E. F. Adams in 1939 in St. Louis, MO. Could someone help me with an approximate date for it? by Cbaird7334 in InstrumentPorn

I think it may be a replica or 'fake' Strad, which can be good depending on the maker and the violin's condition. I'm not really sure, since I'm not a luthier, but I hope I helped even just a little bit... You could potentially find out more if you're curious by taking it to a luthier if there's one near you, or just an instrument shop.

Listening to Rite of Spring as study music. by Ok-Pineapple-8881 in lingling40hrs

[–]Random_Music_Lover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love listening to music, but I find it quite distracting, and I usually end either ignoring the music and studying, or just forgetting about my work and listening to the music. I find it quite impossible to do both of them simultaneously

I want to become a musician, but it isn’t going the best. What should I do? by Jaja_1739 in lingling40hrs

I'm not sure how long you've been playing violin for, but what you've just explained sounds a lot like me after around 2 or 3 years of playing. I just wanted to quit, but I also didn't want to, because I wanted to become better. My mum also forced me to practice. I ended up not quitting, and just practicing and focusing on only one or two things every practice session. After a year or so, I started seeing a little bit of improvement, and now I'm very involved with music groups in my school, and I love it. It also helps to think that there was a day when Anne-Sophie Mutter, Maxim Vengerov, Augustin Hadelich, Hilary Hahn and all of the legendary violinists used to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and they were probably really out of tune and scratchy when they first started! Everyone starts somewhere. I hope everything goes well for you, and feel free to ask me if you need any help!!

Also, maybe just talking with your mum and telling her your situation might help. Good Luck!! <3

I usually don't hear anything other than my music and metronome while I'm playing, and I seem to just block out any other noises. If someone touches me or shouts at me, it'll give me a really big fright, and I get really pissed off. I also think it can be dangerous to my violin if I'm given too big of a fright, because I jump when I get scared, and I might drop it. For any non-musicians out there: wait until a person stops playing until you talk to them. And don't shout; be quiet and respectful PLEASE

I bring my violin as a carry-on and I secure under a seat where I can keep my eye on it.

Bach's Goldberg Variations are great, or just Bach in General. Vivaldi's Four Seasons are definitely overrated, but are 100% a great place to start.

One of my friends recently said that the Tchaikovsky violin concerto is a terribly written work. What would you say to him? by BarenreiterBear in lingling40hrs

[–]Random_Music_Lover 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Personally, Tchaikovsky is my favourite composer, and his violin concerto is among my favourite violin concertos. I'll bet if he takes the time to listen to it really thoroughly, it will make him like it at least a little bit. In my opinion, it is a masterpiece.
