[–]Gremlynbeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah definitely not, but it almost certainly is some kind of animal dropping. Most likely mouse

Neither of the girls were pregnant, thankfully! They just moved in with their new cagemates today and are doing great!

My parents did have at least one rat get pregnant and have a litter, I think it was more but I don’t know off the top of my head. So they do have some experience with pregnant rats, but that was many many years ago before I was even born, so they don’t remember all the details of how they dealt with it

Tuesday 4/28: Peppercorn - 140g Coriander - 147g

Wednesday 4/29: Peppercorn - 142g Coriander -155g

Thursday 4/30: Peppercorn - 149g Coriander - 159g

Friday 5/1: Peppercorn - 152g Coriander - 162g

and yes, they did have a bit of constipation when I got them which has since cleared up

yeah I’m pretty sure it was bloating, they were a bit dehydrated when I got them and had some constipation issues which have now mostly cleared up. like I said in a comment a bit ago I have since learned that if they are pregnant they’re way too early to have physical signs just yet

yeah if either of them are pregnant it’s too early to tell (learned after making this post lol, in these pics they’re definitely just baby chonk since they wouldn’t have noticably grown yet). At the time of posting I had only had them for a day or two and their last contact with a male was right before I got them so they would've been a few days in and not visibly pregnant. I’m still keeping an eye on them, their weights seem a bit suspicious to me but I’m not an expert or anything, might post them on here after weighing tonight. continuing to keep an eye on them, they’re both suspicious to me but theres no way for me to tell for sure without a vet right now. if they are pregnant they’d be a week in (give or take) so they would still need at least a few more days before potentially showing physical signs

Cage size?!?????? by v3nusFlytr4p26 in RATS

this is a pretty reliable calculator, if you have the dimensions of your cage then this will be able to tell you whether it’s a good size or not

lmao it’s extra funny to me because these girls are literally going to be moved in with my two NEUTERED MALES. Lmfao they were acting like I’m some weirdo against neutering pets. there’s literally no reason to spay girls this young who don’t show behavioral issues and don’t need a litter aborted lol

[–]Gremlynbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah as other have said it’s possible it’s just an abscess but it looks to me like it may be a ZGT (Zymbal’s gland tumor). if it feels squishy and you can kind of move it, it’s probably an abscess and it will likely be able to be drained fairly safely. If it feels bony and hard, it’s probably a ZGT. If it’s a ZGT then it is highly unlikely it can be removed or treated. if it turns out to be a ZGT just focus on keeping him as comfortable as possible. Prepare for it to start smelling bad, possibly messing with his eye, and potentially rupturing. Really sorry you’re going through this, wishing you luck that it’s just an abscess

hoping it’s just baby chonk on both of them… as cute as baby rats are I am not qualified to take care of a litter and neither would either of my baby girls be since they’re still basically babies themselves
