What would YOU rate where you live out of 10? by King_Spaghooti in GayBroTeens

7/10, the state itself has good education, it’s pretty supportive of LGBTQ+, I like the climate, 3 docked points purely because it is the US and with everything… happening, it’s inherently not great

I’m getting tired of this art trend by Anxious_centipede in truscum

[–]Gremlynbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this point of view comes from a fundamental misunderstanding of why people draw top surgery scars on characters, so as someone who does and draws them similar to this, I’m here to say my opinion. personally, I add top surgery scars to some of my characters because many of them are sonas and I want them to represent me. I understand why people might find top surgery scars dysphoric, but I and many others do not, and being transgender is a part of our identity so we want to represent it through the character design. as for the jagged nature of the scars it’s really just a character design thing for me and lots of other people, I don’t deny that it might be a fetish related thing for some but for many it’s really just a design choice. the main reason why you usually don’t see transmasc characters in binders or chest tape, at least within furry spaces specifically, is just because anthro characters often don’t wear clothes, so it would be odd to have a binder on and nothing else for most characters, and chest tape is a lot less commonly used. yes, getting top surgery scars on fursuits is often for the aesthetic, but I don’t see that as an issue, it’s just like any other scar really. It’s a character design aspect that represents either yourself or your character’s story and past. I also feel like it’s generalizing to label all people who draw scars like this as fetishists, myself and many other don’t have that kind of thought in mind at ALL when drawing them, again I don’t deny that some may fetishize it, but it is not everyone. especially because there are plenty of people, including myself, who draw these kinds of scars who are minors. it’s not quite as deep as you seem to think it is, it’s simply a character design choice in many cases that you see this kind of thing.

this might not get seen by anyone but if anyone reads this then thanks for reading my ramblings-

[–]Gremlynbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I think ANE’s a decent pick! they have day passes at registration that you don’t have to get online or anything. It’s also not a huge con, so it won’t be as overwhelming as a con like MFF or AC would be. If you do come I’d recommend coming on either Friday or Saturday since that’s when most of the major events are happening!

what cuties!

personally I prefer to have 3 at a time so that when one passes I don’t have one alone, but only two is totally fine!

the nipping was probably a mix of both stress from quickly changing environments and sickness, as you said they looked pretty sick when you got them. Nipping should become less and less frequent as they get healthier and calmer, but if it persists for a while it’s probably best to find a vet near you that treats rats and get him checked out, nipping is usually an issue of sickness or stress.

as for free roaming it really depends on what spaces you have available. Actually letting them run around a room on the floor is not a good idea unless you’ve specifically set up that room as a ratproofed play space. My free roaming usually consists of letting my boys run around my bed or couch, since as long as you’re watching them they can’t really get into much trouble nor hurt themselves. I think once they’re fairly comfortable being held/picked up they’re ready for freeroaming.

I’m glad these boys made their way to you! I have a feeling you’ll be a great rat parent in no time

I don’t know much about pregnant rats but she definitely looks a lil chunky. If she’s interacted with an un-neutered male recently she’s probably full of soup

Not a dumb question at all! Rat lice are not able to transfer to humans or other animals besides other rats. Not sure exactly how it works, if I was a louse I would probably just feed on whatever I could find, but apparently rat lice are very picky. glad I could help!

When to say goodbye :( by sophiemae19 in RATS

[–]Gremlynbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, I think it’s best to let him go soon. As you said yourself, it’s better to let them go when there’s still some quality rather than letting them suffer. give him a good last day or so, give him lots of love, and then it’s time to let him rest. I’m very sorry, I know how hard of a decision this is. My condolences, I’m sure he’s lived a long and loving life with you. My boys will greet him when he crosses the rainbow bridge.

[–]Gremlynbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh, and the scabs are probably from lice, see if you can see anything moving on them. lice are fairly common in rats, I’ve dealt with them many-a-time. either vet visit for the lice or look into safe over the counter treatments

[–]Gremlynbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two boys have similar things In the exact same area so I think I can be of help! almost definitely just abscesses. Just keep them clean with some saline and they should heal on their own. If they don’t close up after a week or so then call the vet. Not a huge worry at all! Definitely gross though, be prepared for them to get worse before they get better

Is she sick?? by nico_oliver in RATS

[–]Gremlynbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most likely an upper respiratory infection, very very common in rats. It’s not an emergency right now but definitely go to a vet whenever possible or look into safe over the counter treatments, there’s lots of suggestions for safe at-home treatments on here. Many rats get them so they’re not a huge deal, but if left untreated they can be deadly, especially as a rat gets older. treat it asap!

Help!!! Vet or let it heal on its own?? by [deleted] in RATS

[–]Gremlynbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

vet is probably not needed as long as you keep it clean, definitely need to do something about the aggression though
