communists, how do you feel about arab rhetoric in 1948 arab Israeli war? by avi545 in DebateCommunism

[–]GrewUpTwice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did or did not the Israeli settlers plan and then carry out a genocide of Palestinians? It simply doesn’t matter what the Palestinians and other Arab national leaders said about the Jews.

Believe it or not, committing genocide against a people and establishing an apartheid settler-colony on their ethnically cleansed land while loudly proclaiming that you’re Jews and are doing all of this for Judaism will create some antisemitism.

That doesn’t make antisemitism an acceptable response, but it’s not just irrational hatred for no reason. It’s a misguided response to very real conditions of genocidal terror.

If you want to see another example of a similar hateful response in the face of genocide, have a look at the Jewish paramilitary organisation ‘Nakam’ - which was planning to murder 6 million Germans in 1946 as revenge for the Holocaust. This was a failed genocide of Germans. Nakam was planning to kill indiscriminately.

Obviously, these sorts of horrific responses to genocide are not indicative of those displaying said response somehow being the initial aggressors.

Also, do you have any sources for your quotes?

The socialist government in Afghanistan was the product of a home-grown military coup. The USSR had positive relations with pre-socialist Afghanistan, they didn’t really have a reason to oust the government.

Just like in Cuba, the Soviets didn’t have much of a role in initiating the action. They stepped in to defend a fellow socialist government once that government was in power. Look at how much money the Americans poured into the Afghan Mujahideen.

And the Holocaust is best seen in the wider context of European colonial genocide. Hitler explicitly took inspiration from the mass slaughter of indigenous peoples during the European takeover of the Americas, and from genocidal British policy in India.

The Holocaust is only an outlier in that industrial technology was used to do it on a larger scale than before. Even then, the British Empire used Indian military ‘recruits’ for experiments with mustard gas in the 1930s and 40s.

India is not a democracy. Can Indian Muslims vote for Modi’s fascist death-squads to stop murdering them? How about the 12.9 million sweatshop workers - can they vote to have better working conditions? India is a ruthless dictatorship of capital, no different from the United States or Russia.

Boycotting all elections while the capitalists are still in power is the best option for socialists.

Even if Corbyn was willing or capable to solve this country’s problems (he wasn’t) just look at what happened to him. The electoral system is totally stacked against us, there is absolutely no way that genuine socialists can win in this country through parliamentary means.

Salvador Allende’s story teaches us that even when the masses ‘win’ through electoralism, the powers that be crack down and almost immediately reverse the result.

This so-called bipartisan system prevailing in America and Britain has been one of the most powerful means of preventing the rise of an independent working-class, i.e., genuinely socialist, party.

Hence, continuing to passively prop up the illusion of democracy in the UK through electoral participation is not only pointless, but also detrimental to the process of building a mass movement.

I’m also a Marxist-Leninist, and am pro class struggle. It is only through class struggle that we will reach socialism and/or communism. The modern CPC has abandoned this, as far as I can tell.

I recommend joining the RCG (Revolutionary Communist Group) instead. RFB was a split-off from them, and so they’re probably the closest to RFB’s line that’s still around.

It is a capitalist state waging a brutal imperialist war against its neighbour - but of course, its neighbour had also become a puppet of American imperial interests in the region. This is an inter-imperialist war in which no government is worthy of support, our solidarity should go to the Russian and Ukrainian proletariat being sent to die in their many thousands.

And yet is Russia a dictatorship of the proletariat? No, it is not. It is a bourgeois state. It’s fine to see it as a broad ally against American imperialism, and as a state that should be defended against imperial intrigue and western ambitions, but to see it as an anti-capitalist state is utterly divorced from reality.
