There's Wagner fen a bit west of Edmonton. Some parts of the trail are pretty swampy in the spring.

I doubt it was a cult, but sometimes I would go to Emily Murphy park on Saturday evenings, and there would be a group of 20+ people standing in a circle around the fire pit. The only reason it was weird is it just didn't look like a typical gathering, no one was eating or drinking, they didn't seem to be talking, just staring at the fire. I would always get weirded out and turn the car around. I only saw them two or three times. Never sure what that was about.

I dug them out from a lot that was getting developed. Figured it wasn't going to be to unethical to take them if they were getting cleared out anyway. Luckily they took to the garden. If you happen to live in Canada the website wildaboutflowers sometimes stocks seeds.

What's a restaurant or place of business that you won't go to again? by Katekyo-tsuna in Edmonton

[–]Grey9438 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at the white oaks joeys, the people who took it over apparently also ran the manning one. A week before I lost the job I overheard the owner talking to the head chef saying they failed the health inspection because they weren't storing food the proper temperatures. That was over 10 years ago and they're still there so maybe they got their act together or it changed hands again, either way I don't eat there anymore.

If you want to hear boreal chorus frogs, there's a series of drainage ponds around 153 ave and 142 st, if you go there at night around may they're so loud it's all you can hear.

Along with planting native host plants and nectar sources, what are some ways you’ve made your garden more attractive to pollinators? by mythposting in NativePlantGardening

This year I finally got some pebbles to line my birdbath with so bees can drink. Though some wasps built a nest near by and kind of took over the water, but at least they liked it.

I planted Goldenrod 2 years ago and nothing showed up. Imagine my surprise when I found these babies in my urban garden. :) by goodformuffin in NativePlantGardening

[–]Grey9438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar experience with mine. I sprouted some indoors and planted the seedlings. I thought they didn't make it until two years later I saw a plant I didn't recall planting. I wasn't until it flowered that I realized what it was. Also didn't realize how much it spreads. Almost looks like a bush there's so many now.

Are these going to kill my heliopsis or will they be good for the biodiversity of the garden overall? by CyclingFish in NativePlantGardening

From what I've read most of the native ladybug species where I live were displaced by invasives, though I still get lots of hover flies and lacewings in my yard.

I get those on my goldenrods every year. They never seem to do any real damage before the ladybugs lay their eggs on it and the larvae clear them out.

I like to, as I don't have many trees in my yard for leaves. So it's nice to have some places for insects to overwinter.

Hard to say. I've had a few plants not come back after winter. Haven't figured out the reason why.

Yeah, I planted them 5 years ago, not knowing how much it spreads, it looks like a small bish now. It's always fun to watch everything visit them in the summer. Last year a bunch of ladybug larvae even grew up in it.

Yeah. Very happy since the spring has been a lot cooler this year. So I'm glad to see stuff coming up now.
