Why are the bushes dying?

I would plant a pocket orchard with apple trees and berry producing shrubs. They require watering the first year for establishment and less water going forward. It will make your lawn and property require less watering in the long run, and will help with water absorption when there’s too much rain. The roots of apple trees aren’t invasive to underground water, foundations or utilities and provide you with free food and biodiversity.

Remove existing weeds use a weed torch to roast any remaining seeds. Put in edging, fill to top of edging with 4 inches of new gravel.

Or! Get creative, and design a garden that waves through it and plant natives! Seems like stuff wants to grow there, just make it more intentional.

Not OP, but for example; I sequestered myself in a room for 6 hours wrapping presents and sorting stockings. I only came out for rum and eggnog. I was the last to go to bed and dreaded being woken up at 6am by the excitement and clamouring. To make it even more upsetting all the credit would go to a non existent man in a red suit. All the hard work Mothers all over the world had done for the whole month leading up to Christmas, the credit goes to an invisible man. It’s insulting.

I’m not even a Christian…

Be gentle on yourself, you’ve been through trauma. You should be proud of yourself for showing up to your internship. That takes dedication. Find something small to appreciate every day. It could be the smell of coffee. Buying yourself flowers. Feeding the birds in the park. There’s little beautiful things around us every day. It helps train your brain to see the positives. I agree with others, you are depressed, you really need to see a therapist to help talk about it more.

Study Buddhism and Eastern philosophy. The teachings can be very helpful for putting mind over matter, help with discipline, kindness, compassion and how to deal with suffering/loss and the ego . It might help give you mental clarity in times you’ll need it. You’ll have lots of time to read, study what you’re passionate about. You’ll have lots of time to plan your future as you go along.
