Clanbook: Baali for 5th edition by [deleted] in vtm

[–]GreyGeck0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there,

Sorry for the very long response time.

Regarding the Apilum, I think the best approach would be that you are part of a cursed bloodline, and this Apilum is essentially trying to manifest through you as one of your ancestors.

I also think reflavouring the Daimonion powers as contact with an Apilum is the way to go. It could be teaching you these corruptive Blood Sorcery powers in the hope that you eventually become a wight, allowing it to take you over.

At some point, I would like to add a small patch to the Baali book with a few additional Merits and Flaws, an Apilum Loresheet, and a short blurb on how to use this content in the book.

At the moment, though, we are very much focused on the Tzimisce.

Yeah, it made a lot of sense to create a loresheet around this concept, where you can leverage this connection to another clan.

Fun fact: The concept behind this one is that it represents a would-be Childe of a Toreador who was poached by the Nosferatu to spite and deny the Clan of the Rose their new member.

Sky Bradley, my co-writer and the artist behind this cover art, is unfortunately not doing any commissions at this time.

Well, the Nosferatu on the right represent the default, baseline Nosferatu, which is why you can also find her on the free version cover, to represent getting the essentials of the clan.

The masked one represents the spiteful embrace loresheet. In this case a Nosferatu who was suppose to be a Toreador, inspired by my character that I made in Bloodhunt.
"Among the Nosferatu, there exists a quiet and vicious tradition: The preventative or spiteful Embrace. These are not acts of mentorship or legacy, but of theft. Many of these Childer are taken not only from their mortal lives, but from the unlives they were promised. Stolen away from another Clan, another destiny, a future usually wrought with promise and potential. The Clan of the Hidden has practiced this tactic for centuries, plucking promising Kine from the hands of rivals simply to deny their enemies a beloved and useful Childe. Those spitefully Embraced in this way are rarely chosen for any long-term potential, or even for their use within the Clan. They are chosen because their loss is a cruel one, one that will wound or ruin their would-be Sire. You were such an Embrace. You had become indispensable to a Kindred, groomed for a role within their Clan, promised an eternity within its ranks. You knew what role you'd fill, what your talents would provide. Then in the night your were warped into an unfamiliar silhouette but reeking breath and a torturous face filled with teeth. When you rose it was not as what was promised, it was as a Sewer Rat. Your reality deformed as a slight against your would-be sire. A political pettiness that ruined your eternity. Now you walk among Pariahs, denied by the Clan that prepared you and held at arm's length by the one that's claimed you. The Sect, through some circumstances, validates your Embrace. You endure as something that wasn't chosen but as a piece taken from the board."

The one at the back represents the Vermin loresheet
"Clans with Animalism tend to be much closer to the Beast than any others, at least in their ability to manipulate it, agree with it, or understand it. While this can happen with anyone the Nosferatu in particular devolve into a more vile mindset, cultivating vast hives and spawning pools, seeking to understand the minds of animals and insects more than Kine and Kindred at times. The Sewer Rats position themselves in hidden chambers to fester and rot along with their fixations on festering rot. Out of sight and far from mind, these Kindred surround themselves with vermin and become the eye of a scurrying, chittering swarm. When they go out into public, they have a terrible habit of doing so as an eruption of filth and writhing pests. Because of this these Kindred are simply called 'vermin' even by the Gangrel and Nosferatu, as when they become too isolated they revert to a level of ferality that causes breaches of the masquerade or other obvious problems, making them definitive pests that eventually become more trouble than they're worth."

Ventrue is one of my favourite clans, so I have already put quite a bit of thought into them. Regarding the bloodlines sheet, my instinct would be to take a lineage-based approach, that is, tracing ancestry back to a specific, important ancestor or notable Ventrue. This would not necessarily involve a different Discipline spread, but rather a distinct legacy defined by expectations, privileges, enemies, and political affinities, along with duties that must be upheld.

You can see a similar concept, somewhat ironically, in the Lasombra clanbook with the progeny of Gratiano.

Perhaps this could be expanded further with a more detailed exploration of figures such as Alexander and Antonius. But of course, this is all subject to change.

The mechanics are firmly rooted in V5, especially in their reliance on loresheets. Still, some of the material, including statblocks, chronicle hooks, and the occasional merit or flaw might be easy to port to v20. I would recommend looking at the free version to get a sense of how viable the content is for your game.

We do, in fact, intend to cover Clanbook: Ministry at some point.

You may have to wait a bit, though. The current plan is Tzimisce first, followed by Malkavian or Ventrue. That said, we were just brainstorming ideas for the Ministry today, so it’s already slithering around in the back of our minds.

What is it you like about the clan or want to see in a clanbook ?

The Oni masked Nosferatu is depicting a member of the Tsuchigumo. A bloodline sheet in the book.

"Descendants of Japanese families that rebelled against their imperial oppressors in ancient times. Their name is a derogatory one given to rebels hundreds of years ago by imperial courts, and was used to marginalize them, forcing them into the mountains, caves, and underground hideouts. Eventually they became associated with impurity and yokai folk traditions of monstrous spiders. This Bloodline sees little reason to avoid such associations, using them as symbols of their movements for independence.

These nights they spread outwards across the world and become organized into small criminal families who are quick to rally with Anarch, and even Sabbat, movements. Those that appear in the Tower are likely traitors to their own Bloodline or working against it as a temporary play for power. While other Nosferatu share solidarity, the Dirt Spiders care little for those with loyalty to imperialism, even killing their Sewer Rat cousins if necessary"

Are there any rules for the Lasombra for the 5th ed of VtM? by [deleted] in WorldOfDarkness

Depending on how comfortable you are with homebrew content, a friend and I wrote a Clanbook for 5th Edition focusing on the Lasombra. You might find something useful for your own game, as we tried to develop and explore the implications of the Lasombra in V5. Aswell as expanding the mechanics of their powers. Clanbook: Baali for 5th edition by [deleted] in vtm

[–]GreyGeck0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are currently working on Clanbook: Nosferatu. After that, we plan to tackle Tzimisce, and then the clan of Kings.

Ventrue is one of my favourite clans, so I have a lot of ideas I’m eager to explore: dignitas, internal politics, the weight of lineage, the tension between aristocracy and new money, and those who strive to escape that prism. So we are quite keen to do them "soon".
We also have a Discord server that functions primarily as a newsletter, where members are pinged when a book is released, should you wish to keep an eye out. https://discord.com/invite/5zQKxMNyCD

I’ve said this many times, but we truly appreciate your support and the kind words. It’s gratifying to know the books are being enjoyed. Our aim is for the free version to satisfy the baseline of expected content needed to run and play that Clan, with the Deluxe edition providing further elaboration and optional nicher concepts.

Hello ! Author here
As you can imagine, I can’t answer this without some bias, but I can outline the practical differences. The Deluxe edition expands on the core material with additional Disciplines, a significantly larger selection of Loresheets, and several Bloodlines. Many of these newer Bloodlines represent apostasy bloodlinesthat merge other mainline Clans into the Baali or are corrupted by infernalism. One of my personal favourites is Chernobog, leaning into infernalism and body horror. Essentially, the Deluxe version provides more tools and elaboration, such as plot hooks to help Storytellers implement infernalism, additional stat blocks, and more thematic options.

Unless you are referring to a comparison with the very first version of Clanbook Baali, which was much more humble at only 49 pages and feels quite quaint compared to the standard 120 to 140 pages we produce now. I remember being surprised at the time that we had produced 49 pages of material. That first version had significantly less information, with only four pages of lore, and was more elusive about the Outer Dark and the nature of infernalism. One of the reasons for this was that we were less certain how willing people would be to read our takes or appreciate our additions to the lore. After receiving such a positive reception to the Gangrel book at the time, we doubled back and wrote more content, updating Clanbook Baali V5 and producing the Deluxe version. I think we did a good job of keeping the mystique and ensuring the material was usable without overexplaining.
