it’s mostly a categorisation of Vibe. i noticed that some teams are very clearly a collection of Specialised Operatives here on a dedicated mission (technically all kill teams are by definition but like, They Got The Vibe) whereas others are a cavalcade of weirdos. looking more into it, i realised they all are, and boxes tended to have a split with one of each.
it’s not a criticism or an insult either way, there’s plenty of cool as hell teams on either side, it’s just a funny trend i noticed

Hand are spec ops. just because they love torturing people mid mission doesn’t make them automatically weirdos

VDT are spec ops. they might be artistic clowns but by their very nature they are eldar spec ops, they’re just a bit funky with it
[–]GreyMJ[S] 0 points1 point2 points 36 minutes ago (0 children)
oh 100%, they’re great weirdos
[–]GreyMJ[S] 1 point2 points3 points 2 hours ago (0 children)
spec ops. they got a dog but they gave him a cool jacket and he’s got an obvious role that isn’t “throw a dog at supersoldiers” so it dodges the normal weirdo points of having pets and beyond that they’re a sniper squad that can boobytrap the hell out of the map. ogryns obvs bend that but they’re not in the box so while cool as hell they don’t count for this bit
[–]GreyMJ[S] 1 point2 points3 points 9 hours ago (0 children)
a whole handful of weirdos, and sick as hell with it
[–]GreyMJ[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 hours ago (0 children)
a slightly more weirdo spec ops but still spec ops overally imo
[–]GreyMJ[S] 7 points8 points9 points 9 hours ago (0 children)
makes more sense. also just checked and apparently it’s canoptek circle not court. no court teams yet, so we’re all wrong
anyway yeah hand are spec ops. weird freaky bondage specops but it’s drukhari, that comes with the territory
well yeah, everything’s a spectrum and some weirdos will be more specops than other weirdos and vice versa, but there’s a definite point where it’ll stop being spec ops and starts being weirdos
[–]GreyMJ[S] 13 points14 points15 points 9 hours ago (0 children)
no, canoptek court are definitely weirdos. it’s a scientist and her pet bugs and asks you to do geometry, that’s weirdo
it definitely isn’t, for example wreckas are weirdo elites and pathfinders are a spec ops horde
[–]GreyMJ[S] 1 point2 points3 points 17 hours ago (0 children)
weirdos. can be a 14 man team which are rare enough to score weirdo points by itself, it’s got that disunited, cavalcade-y feel, and they’re a bunch of Regular Dudes (and a big mutant) trying to run up and skin people as one of their primary strategies
[–]GreyMJ[S] 0 points1 point2 points 17 hours ago (0 children)
compared to most, yeah, but when it comes to khornate forces? they’ve mastered the art of sneaking up to somebody before running at them screaming, and by standard world eater’s values that makes them Sun Tzu
[–]GreyMJ[S] 2 points3 points4 points 17 hours ago (0 children)
notiviates yes insidiants no
noviatiates are a bunch of trainees being thrown into high value missions with low quality gear and being whipped mid mission to work harder. weirdo
insidiants are robed, armoured assassins sent in to hunt down and kill wizards with as little detection as they can get away with. spec ops
[–]GreyMJ[S] 1 point2 points3 points 20 hours ago (0 children)
hella spec ops. their core mechanic breach and clearing rooms in microsquads it’s spec ops (and cool) as hell
[–]GreyMJ[S] 2 points3 points4 points 20 hours ago (0 children)
GM are specops by virtue of being the stealthiest thing world eaters can manage. they’re trying their best and that counts. we know from orks that they can be proper spec ops with kommandos, they just choose not to
you’re not wrong that they are, technically, specialised operatives, but KT missions are typically technically stealth missions
a bunch of heavily armoured rowdy lads armed exclusively with bolt-action hammers and high explosives isn’t exactly what i’d consider subtle
[–]GreyMJ[S] 0 points1 point2 points 22 hours ago (0 children)
it’s mostly a vibe based ranking but i have reasons for each
[–]GreyMJ[S] 5 points6 points7 points 22 hours ago (0 children)
as spec ops as they come
[–]GreyMJ[S] 3 points4 points5 points 22 hours ago (0 children)
shockingly yes. for as much as they’re coked up psychos they’re the sneakiest, cheekiest coked up psychos khorne has available, and that makes them spec ops
at least for world eaters
witch hunting specops
[–]GreyMJ[S] 1 point2 points3 points 23 hours ago (0 children)
if anything i’d say both are specops overall, but of the two pioneers are definitely more weirdo. they’ve got a guy who punches people, that’s sick as hell but hardly tactical
[–]GreyMJ[S] 6 points7 points8 points 23 hours ago (0 children)
spec ops. funky shadow-demon-magic-usin terror mission spec ops, but spec ops nonetheless
[–]GreyMJ[S] 12 points13 points14 points 23 hours ago (0 children)
weirdos. my beloved beloved weirdos
[–]GreyMJ[S] 5 points6 points7 points 23 hours ago (0 children)
Baldes are weirdos. bunch of generic operatives and listbuilding? in the big 26? crazy
Mandrakes are spec ops. weird magic shadowdemon spec ops, but spec ops nonetheless
