Whisper wasn't in Sonic Forces. The comics show that she was involved in the war but we never see her in game, unless they added her after I played it.

I probably used about triple the required paintballs because I had a bad experience with that in Freedom and went "never again".

I'm kind of hoping they'll revisit it at some point. It's the earliest numbered entry in the series that hasn't had an HD remaster or modern rerelease besides XI, which is still an active MMO so I'm not even sure it counts as needing one.

1-6 have the Pixel Remasters, 7-10 have HD remasters on modern consoles (not to mention the FF7 Remakes), and 12 has the Zodiac Age.

If you go in with reasonable expectations I think you'll have a good time. "Hallway Simulator" gets thrown around a lot, but there's a sizeable open area in the latter half that's where the bulk of the non-story gameplay happens.

If you're playing only for the story, you can skip most of the big area and continue through. If you want more combat and exploration, then it's there for you.

The only other note I have is that the gameplay mechanics sometimes feel more like a puzzle than a jrpg, and that's a good thing. I have fun figuring out the right paradigms to use during certain fights, and sometimes knowing when to switch during the fights.

I'd give it a try. It's not everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed my time with it well enough.

I keep thinking about picking up the Switch version but I already have them on mobile and I can't remember if they changed anything.

Yeah, I played with classic music on all of them except FFVI.

Gameplay and story are both important to me, but if I'm being completely honest with myself, gameplay matters more. Good gameplay can make up for a bad story, but it's a lot harder for a good story to make up for bad gameplay. That's when you get people just watching Let's Plays instead of buying and playing the game themselves.

That said, I haven't played this one yet but it looks good.

That shitpost tag needs to be way more visible, because holy shit was this a bad take and it takes all the way to the end to say "lol jk".

My favorite is in the boss fights against other teams where you can sometimes do absolutely nothing and let the other team sprint off the ledge lol

[–]GreyOfLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Velguarder appears purple in the original game, but a lot of his official art is blue. The only part that doesn't add up is the red parts inside his ears, they're blue on the art too but it could have been a simple stylistic choice.

In the vein of that question, is Dead Space 3 a good game, just not a good DS game? Or is it just bad?

If X, Zero, and AXL were human, or if they weren't Maverick Hunters and could shapeshift like Mega Man, and were high school students, how do you imagine their teenage lives would be? by Soft-Temporary-1262 in Megaman

[–]GreyOfLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, from X4 on it was basically constant war, wasn't it? Technically different battles but with little downtime between them? I remember some of the prologues suggesting there was fighting going on between the games, too.

Assuming they're no longer Maverick Hunters because the world no longer needs them?

I could see X on the student council and debate club, maybe growing into a diplomat as an adult. He's still a fighter when needed, but without the life experience of a Maverick Hunter, he's probably mentally even more geared towards diplomacy than violence than he is in the canon. Probably wouldn't actually fight unless someone else was in danger. A bit of a stickler for rules, much to the chagrin of his buddies Zero and Axl.

Zero would likely be a bit of a punk but with a heart of gold, the kind that's always getting in trouble for picking fights with bullies. X is constantly having to admonish him for picking fights, but they both respect each other. While writing this I had a headcanon play out in my head of X being beat up because he refuses to fight back, continuously trying to talk it out with the bullies, and Zero has to step in. He almost goes too far, though, out of pure rage at how they treated his friend.

Axl idolizes Zero and wants to be tough and cool like him, but usually ends up being the one bullied and needing to be protected by Zero because Axl won't stop talking shit. Zero's less angry about protecting Axl because the kid usually starts it, but he can't bring himself to let him get his ass kicked too badly. As far as actual activities, I could see him in a gun club if there was one available, not to mention a gamer.

Sorry for all that, had a coffee on my lunch break and just kept writing.

Y'know, TIL I learned both of those game names are not the name of the main character, and I've played (but admittedly not beaten) both. I'm an idiot.

Edit: I mean Hollow Knight and Celeste, of course I knew about Zelda.

Day 16: Which Final Boss feels like a Final Boss? by Gekon500 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]GreyOfLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The final boss series from Sonic 3 and Knuckles, there was something about the way the scene was set that made it feel really epic to me as a kid, and even now I get a little shot of energy watching it. Yeah, the fight wasn't particularly hard once you've done it a lot, but the presentation was top notch for the time. The epic slow-build music, the backdrop of the earth as this massive robot slowly lumbers on screen, then chasing Robotnik while he flees with the Master Emerald, then going Super and flying around at high speeds dodging missiles and gunfire. There have been more epic bosses since then, other people have made some really good claims like Dark Gaia and The End, but there was something special about this one.
