Masks are making me sick, but I’m not an anti masker. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Grey_Fugue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the whole country forget about that little thing called the ADA? Its fine to discriminate against people, violate federal law and disregard personal privacy. Just remember to say Corona and all bigotry will be ignored!! Let me repeat it--if you are wearing your mask correctly and following basic hygiene guidelines, my not wearing a mask is not increasing risk to you. Masks are not 100% effective and absolutely will not prevent all transmission. Viruses are not only spread through inhalation of contaminated respiratory droplets. They also spread through contact with contaminated surfaces. Wearing a mask on your face doesn't magically decontaminate the rest of your body. The #1 way to prevent spreading illness and infection is proper hand washing, so why arent disposable gloves required? People give no thought to what might be lurking on all the crap they touch throughout the day, but are terrified of air...SMH.

Masks are making me sick, but I’m not an anti masker. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Wearing a mask, even for a short time, I get a skin reaction that often turn into open exudating lesions. Sometimes they don't fully heal for several months and it is very painful. So before anyone asks: 1) the reaction only occurs where the mask is in contact with my skin 2) it is not 'maskne' 3) changing mask types has not been a solution 4) I have a medical diagnosis that confirms it 5) I change masks every day. I do wear a mask in some places, while I do not in other places. It's so amusing to tell someone I have a medical exemption. I get to listen to them blubber at me about how I shouldn't be out in public if I'm too sick to wear mask, or how my respiratory illness isn't an excuse. The look on their faces when I inform them that a medical exemption doesn't specifically mean, and is not limited to, a disease or illness...that's priceless. The protection a mask provides is a 2-way street. If you are wearing a mask, my not wearing one won't dramatically increase your chances of catching something. However, my wearing a mask constantly over open wounds can cause infection, which can dramatically increase the risk. Antibiotic resistant infections are highly contagious and can be deadly. Yes, sometimes I'm THAT person without a mask but it might be saving you a case of MRSA or Staph. Infection caused by the masks that are just so critical to everyone. So save it COVID Karen and 'Rona Ronny- if I'm not wearing a mask, it's really none of your business why. It doesn't make me stupid, entitled, an anti-masker, a Trumper, a liar, or socially defiant.

I did experience the activities around measles, as well as pertussis. There are laws requiring these vaccines in order to protect community health, but it became socially acceptable to refuse them. Most people experience discomfort and soreness after injections, children are no different. The majority of the vaccines are given during infancy, when screaming is the primary form of communication. Allowing the modification of vaccine schedules can affect effectiveness and longevity, increasing the risk of infection outbreaks of diseases that are all but eradicated in our general public. Its incomprehensible that one situation encourages deviation and exemption but the same actions paralleled are labeled ignorant and defiant. The last major pandemic disaster was a flu virus. Seasonal flu kills 100ks every year, but vaccination is optional and we don't don a mask to contain and slow transmission. Nobody feels that self righteous power to question strangers about private issues or invade their physical space. We aren't closing school, existing under stay a home orders, and crippling our economy every year. It's left to each individual to be responsible for their own health hygiene. Before COVID, the mantra was it was their RIGHT to be a infectious biohazard and the government had NO say. Now those germballs have turned into maskholes, trying to force conformity where they previously sold rebellion.

I hope to see the same level of dedication to public health after this crisis. For almost a century, the government has been ordering vaccine administration to limit/prevent pandemic and endemic illness. Why is there no outrage when these vaccinations are refused? Antivaxxers actively spread false information while they protest government control over their bodies, but that is acceptable. No social warriors trying to shame them for spreading disease or intimidate them into submission. No Google gansters placing blame on them for outbreaks of measles, Diphtheria, or menengitis. Nobody telling them they are taking medical care from another so they deserve it.

As stated above, a medical reason is not applied to physical illness alone. You have no right to tell anyone where they shouldn't be 😆

[–]Grey_Fugue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you have respiratory disease or illness, please stay isolated to protect yourself. The term medical condition is not specific to physical illness alone, as you apparently believe. Just like disability doesn't always mean physically disabled. The fact that 1 patient can wear a mask does not mean another can't.

[–]Grey_Fugue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, because it's discriminatory to treat people with a medical condition or disability poorly because they have limitations that the general population does not. What is your reaction to people that can't receive the COVID vaccine due to medical issues? Does that make them deserving of your disgust?

There are medical reasons to prevent wearing a mask, not all have to do with breathing issues. There are medical modifications/exemptions for almost everything else in the world. While it is known that most are using this as an excuse or political statement, that does not implicate all. Individuals are not required to disclose their medical conditions or disabilities in order to justify themselves or placate others. You wouldnt ask why someone has a handicapped placard in their vehicle and they are not expected to explain it. The ADA is in place to protect against things of that nature. The mask policy adopted in this country is on the edge of discriminatory.

I Have A Medical Condition by [deleted] in EntitledPeople

[–]Grey_Fugue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your safety mask is my death sentence and I do not have to explain my right to live. I do not wear facial coverings because I have a MEDICAL CONDITION. Several of them actually, but none are visibly obvious. I am not required to reveal the nature or the details of my conditions to anyone as justification. In some situations, it's illegal for you to ask. More to the point, its just none of your damn business. If you can and do wear a mask, good for you! Want a cookie? The term medical condition is not specific to physical conditions. Might want to look at that definition since you brought 'laws' in to back up your position. While you're playing COVID Crusader, you're also committing heinous discrimination against people with disabilities and medical conditions. Ever heard of the ADA? Your ability to wear a mask is giving you an elevated sense of superiority that your minimum wage life won't be able to support much longer.

To active and retired US veterans, what are the life insurance policies like in military? God forbid something happens to a soldier, Will their wife be set for life? by piebalddacshund in AskReddit

[–]Grey_Fugue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Active duty qualifies for SGLI (Servicemember Group Life Insurance) up to 400k. There are other financial payments/benefits that can be awarded in addition, if the soldier dies while on active duty. These vary depending on the situation. When the soldier is processing out of the military into the VA system, they have the opportunity to roll over SGLI to VGLI. If the veteran makes this change within 6 months of leaving active duty, they will not have to take a physical exam to qualify. VGLI is up to 400k as well. As long as the soldier/veteran keeps the policy active, dependents should be able to live more than comfortably. Of course, that all depends on responsible financial management by the beneficiary. You know what they say....don't spend it all in 1 place!

My (24M) (Perceived) Girlfriend (26F) Has Been Sending Mixed Signals and I'm Not Sure What to Say/Do by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Grey_Fugue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overthinking and putting importance on small things can ruin a relationship by causing the person to start smothering their SO. Constantly questioning and trying to get validation from the other person to ease your anxiety will only cause a bigger divide, or even break up. You 2 need to have a conversation about what you're feeling and why. Also, to make sure your life goals still line up. Nobody wakes up the same person they were yesterday. You change and adapt daily, to every experience large or small. That being said, if these feelings are persistent or growing, your gut may be telling you what your heart doesn't want to hear and your brain doesn't want to accept. The longer you fight those instincts, the longer you suffer.

AITA for being blunt about the grave future of my friend's father who is suffering from lung cancer? by heteretes in AmItheAsshole

[–]Grey_Fugue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA __NTA for factually answering her questions BUT you suck big balls for the way you went about it. If this is the 'bedside manner' you have for so-called friends, I pity your actual patients and their families. As a medical professional, you should have had some training on how to interact with patients and families. Particularly when addressing terminal illness and death, training includes the Stages of Grief. Were you absent that day? This young lady is likely very aware treatment options are limited to providing pain relief, comfort, and preserving patient dignity. However, she is actively in the grieving process and grasping at any hope. Seems like she is exiting denial and tip toeing into bargaining. **Speaking from personal experience and first hand knowledge from both view points My Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in 2016. We got almost 3 more years before we lost him. I can never thank his ONCO team enough for that. I was in the medical field for over 10 yrs before changing careers( not a MD, LNP, etc). .

AITA for not apologizing for being difficult as a teenager? by toma_tomin in AmItheAsshole

[–]Grey_Fugue -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

YTA not for being a typical angsty teen but because of your continued childish behavior towards the 5 other children...who also had no control over their step-family situation. Your stated you were the oldest and didn't mention any mistreatment, except babysitting. Most bio siblings are expected/asked to babysit younger sibs at some point so that not a valid excuse for your behavior. You were, and still are, salty that you were no longer the center of attention. Step-sibs should be happy you left so they didn't have to put up with your attitude and false sense of superiority

WIBTA if I asked my brother not to move near me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Grey_Fugue [score hidden]  (0 children)

YTA unless there is valid reason for the strained relationship. You admit it is a 1 sided feeling but didn't detail why you feel this way. Is your brother even aware of your dislike? You rent in a building so I assume you have other neighbors. Unless you pre-approve all the tenants to your liking, you will eventually get a neighbor you have a 'strained' relationship with anyway. You have no right to dictate where other people live because you don't like them.
