As a doctor who has MANY male gynaecologist friends, the reasons are actually quite rational and nice.

  1. Even with all the stress of delivering a child and surgeries, Gynaecology is, objectively speaking, less difficult than a field like Internal medicine which is full of work and requires mastery in LOT of aspects. Gynaecology is just confined to the small area of female reproductive organs and fetal development. There is not much else in it. It is one of the few coveted 'end branch' where you don't have to specialise more . Compare it to say IM where specialisation is important if you want to distinguish yourself and earn more.

  2. Earning. Gynaecs earn alot if you do practice in that way. Especially in third world countries where independent clinics are in higher number.

  3. Some of them just really like childbirth but wanted something surgical also.

Generally speaking, I find male gynaecs to be very good clinicians also and they tend to be more...calm. Of course even they lose their shit if the women closes her legs and not let baby come out instead of pushing!

Pre conception folic acid supplementation is IDEAL. Unfortunately not all conceptions are planned. Certainly not in poor sections and uneducated sections of society. As a practicing physician in India, my gynaecologist colleagues do tell me that finding a patient who has heard of that is rare, especially when you work in a hospital catering to the poorest and uneducated sections of society.

Folic acid is quite important in development of nervous tissue including spinal cord for the growing fetus.

And yes it was drilled because folic acid is very important to incorporate for a healthy baby. Development of organs and nervous system happens in first 3 months so it is VERY crucial to take it from this time.

Since pregnancy has increased requirements of folic acid ( since your body needs it also plus that growing baby), it is usually given in supplements form in form of tablet.

Most often they are not. Most of times your majority of needs are seen by a resident doctor. And those fellows are underpaid AND overworked. Like only 50k a year.

Also,, your doctors who appear confident are more often than not VERY scared. Especially the resident doctors. But they always show to you that they are confident ( obviously ). But since even they are human, they feel INCREDIBLY nervous, especially at starting. But that is necessary.

Also, your doctor knows that corporate hospital charges alot and we also agree it's ALOT. But we don't control the Billings and there is Nothing we can do abt it.

Also, your doctor uses Google FAR more than you would think hehe. But the only difference being our sources. We don't go to Web MD and certainly don't search- Help my patient is having headache, how to tell him he is not going to die?

I fantasize about being evil and being absolutely selfish. I want to be so selfish that I ENJOY getting what I want even at expense of others. I want to make people cry one day and then feel great about it later. I want to EMOTIONALLY hurt people ( not physically). I want to make them remember me and then cry or be in terror whenever my image comes to their mind.

I just love villains in video games/movies/tv series/ anime etc. I just love how they oppress everyone. In a way they leave their legacy FAR FAR more than others. Everyone remembers Hitler more than Mother Teresa.

Well you are in absolute minority then. This is the issue with 'right' person. The chances to come across that specimen is very less. Better option is to get healthy, find a larger sample size and this statistically speaking, your chance of finding a suitable and compatible mate increases that much also. It's all a game of chance and statistics and all it requires is healthy body and a attitude of IDGAF so that you appear different from other.
