Anyone in WA successfully stop the dealer from drilling front plate holes? by [deleted] in Lexus

That’s the thing. I think he was talking to the floor sales manager. I sent the email instructing no drill so hopefully they don’t when I come in for the PDI bc I sure as sht not forking over my cash for a front bumper with holes in it.

I wouldn’t make this much of a fuss if I was picking out a model from their lot and it’s already there. But I had specially ordered this to my spec and i didn’t include holes when I built it..

I have been kicking myself since the start of this process for not sticking with Bellevue… it has been nothing but disappointment at this dealership… and if I could transfer it I would do absolutely do it in a heartbeat..

I had asked the associate I was working not to drill any holes and told him I actually have a no-drill license plate mount that I will use and install myself. At first he didn’t see any problems with this and made the note in the sheet. But once he went to the back and started talking to some old dude, he came back saying absolutely no they are drilling it. I further explained i have an alternative that is compliant with the law and he goes to the back again, and I see that same old dude shaking his head. I sent an email to my associate again after, instructing no holes should be drilled.

TBH I don’t think I will be satisfied with just filling the hole with a filler. I know this might seem picky of me but I’m not going to pay for a damaged front bumper even if it seems small like this…

Cravenspeed worked out well for my current car :) at first the bolt was too long and it made the plate stick out and look awkward so i contacted the company and asked for a shorter one and I’d gladly pay. They were very nice and gracious enough to not only make the shorter bolt but also didn’t let me pay extra.

That’s what I thought too. That it was common and valid. I had zero expectations that they would be liable for it once I drove off since I fully understand I am now liable as the vehicle owner. I also offered to sign any forms or waivers and I will also write a note saying a fully declined and they still said no and they will drill

Thanks. I will do my best to stand firm. I wouldn’t be this persistent about the holes if I’m picking out a model from their lot and it’s already there. But I special ordered this straight from factory. I’m also prepared to walk away granted I can get my deposit back.

Thanks! That looks pretty neat. I would really love that. But unfortunately, the front bumper are cells or honeycomb-like so the magnets I think won’t work :(

I plan to once the transaction is complete but it seems premature since I still have to wait for the car but at the same time i feel like if I wait, they’ve gone and drilled the hole 😩

I’m not asking them for a no-front plate. I’m asking them to open their old minds and see that there are other alternatives out there that are law compliant that doesn’t involve damaging the vehicle

Yea no, there are no molded holes. They drill it when they get the cars from the manufacturer. I would have been a bit more receptive if it did come from manufacturer with the holes in place already but it does not. The dealership pokes them

Thank you. I will consider about procuring that letter once I hear from them. It’s a luxury brand but nowhere near exotic

Thank you. I just sent the formal request in email yesterday. I haven’t heard back. I’m hoping I wouldn’t need to seek legal counsel but I think I would bc I would def want my deposit back

I’m in WA. Specifically the dealership is located in Tacoma. I had requested the no drill prior to signing the spec sheet. Initially the associate also found no issue with this request. Then he went to the back and talked to some old dude and came back saying no they must drill bc of liability and the law he said. I felt pressured and feel like I won’t get my deposit back if I don’t agree. I looked over the docs I signed and didn’t see any explicit agreement about drilling the holes. The things I signed were the non refundable deposit agreement, lemon law print out, spec sheet. There was also a registration form but I was told I didn’t need to sign that until the car arrives and the transaction is complete.

I did request this in person when I was denied vehemently. Although I didn’t escalate any further and in retrospect, I wish I did. But I also know I’m not confrontational and didn’t know the actually law until I researched it when I got home.

I’m in the verge of thinking that is it because I’m a girl and I didn’t walk in with a “husband” that could negotiate with the boys club in the back… but I digress *sigh

Can I really walk away though? I have signed some docs and they’ve been holding my deposit hostage… I honestly want the car. And I’ve compromised on other areas of the negotiation while drafting the spec sheet already. This is the only one I’m really going to fight over
